Thank you for the tip about the H section upgrade (instead of a
collector box) were you in a previous life a BMW mechanic by any
    chance?
And there was me thinking that you were a nice middle class boy...

    Yes. Park Lane
    Nice? bwahahahahaha

I reckon they run a bit better without that abortion of a box. On tuned
boxers I've had no crossover at all to suit tuned length megaphones.

So the collector box is prolly just for sound level control?

The chap at Motorworks said "H-section? Yeah a good upgrade that,
    cheaper too..."

I'm becoming such a sad git... I'm thinking of maybe getting a 2-plug
conversion done in the summer (I s'pose I need to change the electrics
in some way? Er, how?)... thing is, I keep improving the bike a little
and think wow, this is good, it does all it says on the box and
more... and then I find something else that improves it even more...
with no obvious outside sign... its still pig ugly, but there you go,
you want practicality - you pay the price...

Thanks again, the savings will pay for the conversion costs,
    almost.....

Owen's not here until late tonight, so I'll take this one. BMW R80RT
decided in a fit of pique to burn out some of its wiring loom. Owen
has replaced all the wires and fettled the switches, but the damn
    thing is still not right.
