This ST4S of yours, what's it like to own and ride?

For some reason I have it in my head that I need to cut down on the
amount of bikes I own, so if I can sell the SV and the Daytona to be
replaced by something which has the comfort of the SV, but the
sportiness of the Daytona I'd be happy. Main reason I am thinking of an
ST4S is the reasonable cost of them, alleged reliability, V-Twin, not
Japanese, appear to be sporty enough but with upright comfort etc.

Am I on the right track?

These are not the more desireable all black SE model like mine, plus
mine comes with valuable bits I'd otherwise sell on ebay. The first two
are the earlier twin-sided swingarm version with the big single
headlight. The third one is in gash yellow with the nasty Union flag
fairing. I have been told by the Triumph shop up the road that £3800 for
mine is a very fair price if selling privately.

Given that we have both owned Triumphs, RD's and the same Gixxer I'm
guessing our taste in bikes isn't all that different (BMW excepted).

The best way to sum up the 4S is as a late model 996S but with a friendly
riding position, panniers and no single sided 'arm.

Brembo goldlines, Marchesini's, Ohlins with remote preload and the Showa's
top of range forks. All it lacks is a steering damper if your taste runs to
one and a radial master cylinder.
Well I've bored everyone here often enough recounting that I think the late
996/998 variants and the 4S are about the best finished bikes around and
AFAIK have no reliability issues. Their only weak spot is the battery,
slightly weedy, which can be changed for a Hawker.

So in short order, run the ride height back up 10mm and set up the
suspension and it handles just like a 996. It has the same engine/power
curve/torque curve. The aerodynamics are slightly down on the 996 (160mph)
and with panniers and a 14T sprocket top end is 150mph. 45-55mpg.

Price wise they are an utter bargain.
