Now we all know that Three Cross Motorcycles haven't got the best
reputation in the World but would one of their ex-demo bikes be worth
    a punt?

Obviously enough I'm talking about a 312 here but I'm starting to
wonder if an extra R and 78cc is really worth a few grand of my hard
    earned cash.

    £10.5k for a 2007 , £12k for a 2008 or about £16k for a new one is a
big difference so I'm seriously thinking that letting someone else
take that hit isn't such a bad idea even though I'm missing out on
    that crucial extra R.

    What fucking recession?

Heh, have they still got that 2003 Voxan Cafe Racer then ?

So far, Moto Morini don't seem to be regretting their decision to go
with 3X as their UK concessionaires. They once had a reputation for not
liking dealing with warranty claims. Perhaps things have changed.

For what it is worth a recent posting to the MRC forum from them:

"3X has made a number of recent changes to their showroom layout and to
thought I'd give an update, scupper any speculation:

The 'Italian Showroom' has now been closed-down and the Italian bikes
are now located within the 'Triumph' showroom, which is to be
    re-modelled.

Many used bikes will be housed in the former Italian bike showroom and
this area is to become a holding area for used machines and stocks of
    additional new machines.

My reasons for posting are to reassure those that turn-up at 3X, over
the coming weeks that it is 'business as usual' until signage changes
    and remodelling have been completed.

The commitment to 'Moto Morini' continues!"

    Prace bets now.

Even a blinkered fool like me can see that knocking on £6k in
depreciation is a lot of dosh and I could keep the 10R if I wasn't
    buying new.

It makes sense to buy the cheap one, and it's not like people will
think you were scared of buying the powerful version with an extra
    78cc.

    Hmm. Personally I'd never buy an ex-demo - a bike that's been
previously loved by one person has to be a safer bet than one that's
been previously thrashed by many (possibly on a cold engine).

Having said that, I can't really advise either way on their current
servicing competence. The MV mechanic they used to have was very, very
good. I had mine serviced by them a couple of times during the warranty
period, & on re-servicing myself immediately afterwards, was impressed
by the job he did. But he left a few years ago to set up his own
business, so I've no experience of whoever would've worked on the one
    you're looking at.

The only issues I had with Three Cross were their total lack of spares
stock, & the way they could spectacularly **** up spares orders. But
that's irrelevant now they're no longer the importer.

    Helpful, eh?

    Sort of.

I know what you mean about demos being thrashed but surely most
dealers make certain the bike has been warmed up properly before
letting the evil test rider out on the bike which is more than you can
guarantee on any other used bike?

I'm not really that bothered about changing my bike for a couple of
months yet but I'd do it next weekend if the right deal appeared on
the horizon so I've been keeping my eye on a couple of dealers to see
who's going to be most generous when it comes to ex-demo or pre-reg
    bikes.

People keep saying it's a buyers market but that only seems to be the
case when it concerns the dealer working out what to give on a trade
in rather than what they'll take for the bike in their showroom but
    they'll soon catch on.

Mebbe - not all dealers do that though. I've been stood in an MV
dealers when they wheeled a Brutale out the showroom, fired it up &
handed it over to the guy testing it - who hit the rev limiter a few
seconds later as he shot off down the road.

That was certainly me experience when demoing. I don't recall any
dealer ever warming a bike up first; often they just bung you the keys
    and point at the bike.
