It looks like a cross between an Arpilia Mille R, a late model GSXR and
    a 2004 R1, none of which I particularly liked

It looks fine from the side, awful from the front. What is it with BMW
and their obsession with the Patrick Moore squint?

I'd have to see a printout of the sauce code for that, before I could
    tell you.
    Until the paperclip bends, likely.

Seriously, I'd assume it to be a quickshifter, allowing full-throttle
upchanges without having to close the throttle.

That's what the rev limiter's for, isn't it?

I've always imagined a 'quickshifter' as a fairly crude mechanical
device, whereas "HP shift assistant as optional extra, to shift up
without clutch activation or interference of traction" sounds like it
would be motor-assisted clutch activation and rev control, rather like
that in the VW-group's DSG gearbox.

    OK, I sit corrected.
Still sounds fairly crude to me, albeit not entirely mechanical. I
don't doubt that it works well, at least for upshifts, but it's still
    not exactly sophisticated.
Sure, and it may be that their marketing boys have simply decided to
use a new term for that, particularly given that (and I'd missed this
before) it does only mention its use for upshifts. Indeed, given that,
this is almost certainly the case.

And I guess that, much as I love the DSG on the R36, I'd struggle to
see any advantage to it on a bike.

Could it be a new 57-speed box?

  13. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Ace
I wouldn't relish working on that.
