That bizarre right turn you mentioned does exist, but only in Melbourne.
It's to do with not blocking the trams in the middle of the street, if
    you're interested.

Do they still do the anyone can turn left on a stop light if the road is
    empty thing?

Yeah. Although I don't think it holds true if there's a specific lit-red
arrow for that turning. It's all a bit vague really.

Thanks, I knew I'd heard it somewhere. I have Maltese family in
Melbourne and I'm sure one of them told me, but the language barrier
makes me instantly disbelieve everything they say.

There's a joke in Sydney that goes "Got any kids" "Yes, two living and one
in Melbourne". (Bill Bryson, Down Under)

Right, that's my swim on the rooftop swimming pool and breakfast on the
patio taken care of. Might as well head into work. Christ it's all a grind,
    I tell you.

Cool. I came to the conclusion that they'd probably have to fill in
lots of paperwork if they hit me, so I could cross streets without
worrying. It worked on everything except beat up old Ford Falcon 4.0's,
which, in hindsight, I suspect people just wanted to write off.

Not necessarily, they are Abbo's cars. Everyone knows that Abbos are
    pissheads and don't give a ****.

Ssshh. Otherwise people will get wind of the Maltese plot to take over
    the world...
