IIRC you used to be in the business of retrimming cars - if so are you
able to recommend any firms? Early stages but want to get some
    recommendations and ideas of cost.

I was trimming cars until 3 years ago, but got out cos I'd had my fill
of it. It all depends on what area you're in, what the car is, what
materials you want to trim it in and most importantly, what mood the
trimmer is in on the day he quotes you.

Car trimmers are the most unreliable and expensive to employ bunch of
cunts I have ever had the displeasure of working with. They make your
average plumber look like the most disciplined and generous person
    alive.

I can't honestly recommend any of them, because even though I may admire
the finished result, I have a pretty low opinion of them all in a
    business sense.

Be warned, on a number of occasions I have seen them price themselves
right out of the market because the job they are quoting for is a little
beyond their capability. For example a guy wanted a MK2 Jaguar
retrimming from scratch, the trimmer he found quoted something like 7
1/2 grand because he really didn't think he could do it well enough to
keep the guy happy, so he was hoping the owner would look elsewhere. The
car's owner took this to mean the trimmer was something very special so
gave him the job. The trimmer bought a ready made trim kit, removed the
manufacturers labels on the inside of every seat cover and fitted it.
Cost of trim kit 1800 quid, time taken to fit it 15 hours. It may only
have taken 15 hours in actual fitting time, but he kept the car for 6
months so the owner would think he was getting his money's worth.

Another trimmer I know had a 1950s Buick interior for so long that the
owner died and 2 years later his estate came looking for the seats so
they could dispose of the car. Said trimmer gave them back but neglected
to tell the family that the car's owner paid 4 grand up front to pay for
imported from US 1950s seat material which was never ordered.

Virtually all of the trimmers I know are a bunch of cunts. Be very
careful and find one locally by asking around classic car owner's clubs
    etc.

I was toying with the notion of getting the Z200's saddle properly redone
for Africa. I see now that "properly redone" means doing it in-house...

  4. Get it properly redone in Africa. Moroccan leather for a fraction of the
    price you'd pay here.

    Good thinking, Batman, but...

I doubt we'd have the time for such shenanigans.
I'd need to have my arse redone in Moroccan leather by then.
On a Z200, it would look flash as a rat with a gold tooth.

Underpants full of bubblewrap, that's what you need.

Nothing to do with the bike, or Africa, mind. Just a lifestyle choice.

My GL1000's got a saddle that feels like it was carved from granite.

  11. Those used to be available for a tenner or less here. I've seen a trike
rider use one full time as his seat of choice. Swore by it, he did. I
sat on it for a while and found it reasonably comfortable, but I'd
imagine there's an arse break-in period involved over long distances.

Unfortunately they've now become a bit of a collector's item and prices
    have risen.
