.....or anyone else that can shine a light.

Just this morning as I'd taken my bike and wanted to take off, the bike
started to run very rough. It felt a bit like a couple of weeks ago when I
(nearly) ran out of fumes. It had been fine since.

Bike sounds rough and shudders more noticably than a normal V-twin. Bit like
a Harley on idle it is now, if it keep running at all. I have to keep it at
at least 1500 rpm to keep it going. I can't even outrun cars now.

    Any ideas?

Check all the usual things first, but if its not an injected bike, sounds
like you may well have carb problems.

Carb icing? Does it get better when it's warmed up?

    What bike, anyway?

Carb icing would very much surprise me as it's about 20 degrees here. It's a

Ah, right. Didn't know where you were :)

OK, carbed, not injected. You haven't had the fuel tank off? Kinked a
fuel line? If you nearly ran out of petrol, it might also have sucked
crap from the bottom of the tank into the fuel filter, so I'd check
    this.

I really doubt it's a carb problem - in my experience carbs don't
suddenly decide not to work unless someone's fiddled with them. They
could have sucked in crap, but there should be filters to stop this.

Right, I suspect it may be a problem with a sparkplug. I've also noticed a
distinct petrol smell. Crap may be a factor, but I would have suspected
problems earlier. The lack of fuel happened a few weeks ago. Brought it to
the garage now. See what they say. Thanks for the pointers though.

If it's not firing properly on one pot, that would certainly explain a
petrol smell. Hm. Duff plug, maybe coil? Keep us posted.

Sparkplugs changed, bike's had a once-over, choke mended. Optimate still
doesn't like my battery though. Starts off on orange light, when I return
the next morning it's red. Bike starts though.

  12. Sparkplugs, lube, less than an hour labour - what did that lot come to
    then? €70ish?
