Cab, Lozzo, et al. What's there to do on Malta? Jude's there on
business in June and I'm wondering about flying over for a long
weekend or possibly to make a week of it.

One thought would be to charter a yatch and sail around a bit, but I
know sod all[1] about the place, like does it have nice little fishing
villages with yacht moorings and seafront restaurants, are there many
beaches, decent snorkelling or diving opportunities, etc. etc.

Any info appreciated. Oh, and she'll be staying in Porto Maso, if it's
a big enough place that it makes a difference.

[1] Well, a bit of history, but as a potential holiday venue I'm
totally clueless and frankly too tired to google right now.

No fishing villages to speak of, ... no fish left (and they seem to have
    shot all the birds too)

A lot of clear sandy bottomed water - not brilliant for snorkelling

Some nice grottos to sail around

There are day cruises such as Captain Morgan which circumnavigate the
    islands

Old busses which some people seem to orgasm over

Valetta has a lot of history from Templar times

    http://www.visitmalta.com/st-johns-co-cathedral

St John's Co Cathedral - houses the classic George and the dragon
painting and loads of marble skull and cross bones on the floor

it has the fort which was used for Midnight Express

The pub where Oliver Reid had his last drink before he died on location
    during the filming of Gladiator

    raden says...
Wot he said. There's also a fair few neolithic remains and various old
cave dwellings to be explored - some are in really obscure places too,
like between two rows of houses in a normal residential street. There
are some diving spots, but I don't have a clue where or how good they
    are.

She could always go say hello to my folks. Tell her to try hobs-biz-zeit
from Sliema Tower, because that's the best place to buy it, and try a
bottle of Kinnie as well as it's the nectar of the gods.

I recall finding a little fishing village south of Valletta somewhere
but only the one so no idea vis-a-vis sailing. There's a fair bit of
diving around including some WW2 wrecks quite shallow in Valletta
harbour. Easy shore diving off from Cirkewwa if you want to go
independent. Last time I was there a dive medical was compulsory but
that may have changed since joining the EU.

There's a sandy beach at Mellieha which gets pretty crowded otherwise
the shore seems generally to be rocky.
It's pretty small, hire a car and you can go pretty much anywhere
although note the road surfaces are dire and if it rains are very
    slippery.

    Cheers. Filed for reference.
frantic googling finds one reference to "Hob bi-ejt" which would seem
to be a snack of some sort, but no details. Is that what you're
referring to? I guess it's a problem transliterating from the local
    language...
"Bitter Orange drink" Sounds awful - I don't do bitter flavours Jude
may like it though. And it's not even alcoholic; what's that all
    about, eh ;-?

It's a very nice place, lots of history, Valetta is superb with tons of
stuff to do. There's a bery nice old walled city called imdena (sp?)
with a cracking torture chamber underground. It is gory though (for
kids) There's 365 churches on Malta & St peter lived in a cave there
apparently. they drive old Uk cars like mk1 escorts etc. The buses are
old & I mean old. The folk are religous as **** & the girls are
    stunning!

Avoid places like Buggiba as they are shit, in fact Buggiba is one
    great big sewage works IIRC.

Mosta has a cracking church dome if you're into that kind of thing.
Theres a good WW2 musuem in Valetta, as someone has already said, a lot
of Templar history & when you actually look into it, it has changed
hands a good few times in it's life....

I like the place & the people, but get off the beaten track & drive
    very fucking carefully.

At aproximatelt 7 X 14 miles if i remember correctly they did not need
    many roads anyway.

The buses are fun but they were more fun before they were natioanlised
    and all painted green.

Get a boat trip to Gozo and spend thel day there it is well worth the
    trip.

Yeah, that'd be the one. You've got to take into consideration that as
much as I can understand spoken Maletse, I can barely make myself
understood - I certainly can't read or write it.
It's fucking lovely, that's what it's about. Even ELly likes it.

Ah, but, I know how to use an ellipsis.

    Taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellipsis;

"An ellipsis at the end of a sentence with no sentence following should
be followed by a period (for a total of four dots). However, there is no
such thing as a "four-dot ellipsis." A period followed by an ellipsis
may look like four dots, but they are technically considered two
    separate entities."

    Get it right, Johnny Loundeye.
