Paging Myth (Mythbuntu) Gurus

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Simon Atkinson, Jan 13, 2009.

  1. Just set up the living room PC with Mythbuntu - to replace Vista and WMC
because it was getting slower and slower each time it installed a
    Microsoft bug fix.

All going OK apart from the image gallery. The pics are all stretched to
fit the screen (16:9 HDTC connected via HDMI and running 1920x1080).

    Movies etc are fine...ish...

    Any thoughts?

Unfortunately not. I have tried several different flavours of Myth (the
last one was Mythdora I think) and couldn't get it to work reliably.
(Kept getting kernel crashes when changing channels). I might give this
one a try one day. I still find xbmc the most reliable one out there -
it just works for me, but no live tv of course.

Bad advice is worthless. You could at least have pointed him to a
version of OSX which would run on his PC.

For hours of endless fun http://www.osx86project.org/
Try Kalyway, iATKOS or iDeneb versions.

Yes, indeed. And quality comes at a price.
Hmm. There are a few people here who've done the 'Mac OS-X on a PC'
thang, and they speak highly of it. 'can't see the point, myself...

  17. You is the man...

Bloody excellent. Much better at playing DVD's from the server and much
    much better at rendering images.

Ta. Ubuntu and XBMC is the kiddy!

    Also it's fooking fast.
I was told some reasons at the time that sounded really very convincing,
but my local music studio has a hackintosh for fast rendering jobs where
apple hardware apparently just won't cut it. TBH it sounds more faffy
than making linux audio low latency.

Nice. I hadn't actually tried it on Linux (still running mine on an
xbox), but I found it pretty good for both videos and photos. (Audio as
    well of course)
