The regulator arrived today. I'll get on to the de-potting later this week.
    (Skanky old soldering too innit?)
    Cheers.

Not outstanding. Mine dew, I did lever the potting compound out with a
    screwdriver.

Got the bugger depotted this morning. Pretty horrible underneath the potting
compound too. Cause of failure: ingress of moisture resulting in *massive*
corrosion of pcb tracks and subsequent destruction of many components.
Fortunately enough remains to be able to reverse-enginer the circuit.
Can you scan in and email the wiring diagram covering the area around the
alternator/charge indicator light up to the battery, as this will help
    immensely.
    cheers,

I thought you were talking about some potted plant until I read your
    reply.

The only 'potted' plant you'd ever see me mooching around would be some
variety of skunk or other illuminated by many kW of HPS lamps.
    I really *don't* do horticulture.

Aha. There is corrosion all around the edges of where the potting
compound met the case. This prolly explains why it was so easy to
    lever out!
    Cct en route entire.
