you rate them for holiday destinations.

Years (nearly 20, I guess) since I was there, but it's sort of like
the nobby rich bit of Marbella, which is itself the nobby rich bit of
the Costa del Sol. Nice enough place, I guess, although I probably
    wouldn't recognise it now.

But the nice thing about the whole of the Adalucian coast is that you
can get away from it so easily - just ten miles or so up into the
hills you're a world away from the tourist crap that is the coastal
strip. Genuine people in gnuine villages. Although I hear it's getting
a bit overpopulated with ex-pat retirees from Aylesbury, even further
    inland, in recent years...

    Costa Blanca
Alicante is nice, sort of like a mini Barcelona (well, Las Ramblas bit
anyway). You've also got Benidorm another 30 mins up the coast. Not
been there but a bit of a Lad's holiday destination.

There are some really nice places in Costa Blanca if you have a car.
Worth a visit (allow a day for each) are Elx (Elche), Orihuela and
Santa Pola. Beautiful places. A day trip to La Manga further south is
also good, the azimuth is incredible.

    Costa Dorada
Barcelona - best place on the planet (imho).

    Minorca
    V.quiet

    Gerona
Not been but it's on my list. Having researched it a little I don't
think I could spend more than a few days there without getting a
    little bored.

Quite. Spent a week staying in a village on the edge of the Sierra
Nevada a few years ago. Very beautiful countryside. And the likes of
Granada and Cordoba are only a day trip away.

We're talking about a 24 yr old and her mates, not looking for Ibiza but not
looking for the Spanish Retirement Main either.

Your SO is only 24? Bloody hell!

Anyway, I suspect PB would be perfect, as long as they're not poor.

So she wants somewhere that takes a Barclaycard in exchange for frocks
and ladypaint. Inland then, one of them big cities. How about Madrid?
They don't get shopping centres much bigger than that out there.

  14. Well, there's only me from Aylesbury in our village, but the brits are
definitely flooding in. Guess what - the house prices are rocketing.
As are Sevilla (Seville), Ronda and Antequera (including El Torcal,
which is where I´m going today). Jerez de la Frontera is also close if
you want to see the GP circuit.

The costas are shite - utter shite. You'll struggle to find any spanish
speaking people there. There are one or two places that only the locals
know about. I'm not allowed to divulge this information. If you must go
to the coast, then you might try Almuñecar, which is mostly visited by
older people and not too many brits. Nerja is also supposed to be ok.
I'm no expert, as I avoid the coast.

Like Champ says, there´s some amazing countryside inland. A bit hot at
    the moment though.

Not for long, if projections for the German economy turn out to be
even somewhere vaguely near the mark.
I might come over to cool down a touch.

If we *could* just get back briefly to the original topic, I am still
