Paging Sweller - signallers strike

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Paul Corfield, Jul 17, 2006.

  1. I know it's not your gang of brothers that threatening to down tools but
what's your view on the odds of the impending signallers strike going
    ahead this Friday / Saturday?

I was rather hoping to head to the West Midlands this weekend and I'd
like a view on whether I should be booking up to travel by rubber wheels
    rather than steel ones.

    TIA

Is there a site you can go to see if your journey will be affected?

Not forgetting the other one one Thursday/Friday/Saturday next week.
A prime opportunity for me to WFH - my round trip is 3 hours at the best
of times, without Mr Crow and his cohorts doing their best to slow me
    down.

Thanks. According to that it'll only kick in after midday on saturday,
and barring a problem with other legs of the journey I should be well
    home by then.

  10. At this rate I won't be able to get out of Walthamstow to even get a
coach - the damn tube network is half closed down on Saturday as well.

"Customers intending on travelling on the morning of Friday 21 July or
after midday on Saturday 22 July should be aware that train services
are likely to be restricted or severely disrupted " - from the above.

Er Chris,I think that's because they start work at 12pm on the Saturday
after having been on strike for 24 hours. Therefore the services will
still be disrupted as the trains and staff will all be in the wrong
    places.

I could of course be wrong.

  13. I notice in 'other places' that it's now been called orf.

    Indeed.

I was looking forward to a nice day working from home but that's been
    ruined now.

    So inconsiderate.

I don't know, and it's all done with now.

My plan was to be "get a train if they're there, or get a taxi if not".
Everything was running fine. The fuckers still got me in the end though
    - I got to the station with 5 mins to spare to get the train that was
in. Ticket machine then played "hide the credit card", which took 6
    minutes to sort out.

  19. Well I did do it. Got the humid delights of Wolverhampton and
    Birmingham.

It felt terribly provincial - which will sound terribly snobby but there
really is a different sort of "run down" feel to so many places outside
    of London.

I felt a lot of London felt run down compared to Birmingham and
    Solihull.

However, both those places have had major re-developments within the
    last couple of years.
