Has anyone got a cutter with a disc less than 5mm thick with a diameter
of 10-15cm? My front-door deadlock has fucked-up and I'd like to cut the
bit that protrudes into the frame. Unless anyone has a more sensible
    idea.

    Get a locksmith.
It looks like a lump of brass but it probably has two hard steel pins
    inside,
which will keep rolling as you try to cut them.

I rang one and he said, "I can't do anything if the door isn't open,
    fool". Not a nice chap.

  6. Mine burnt out the motor after cutting a lot of 2 mm stainless and
I haven't worked up the courage to ask Focus to replace it under warranty.
If you're just after the disks, Poundland has 115x22x3 mm cutting disks in
packs of three. (I've still got 3 of those & a 125 mm diam one bought by
mistake, if you only need disks.)

How about knocking out the hinge pins and opening the door at the other
    edge?

Mine made a rather impressive bang, plus flash and smoke after a slab

I rang one and he said, "I can't do anything if the door isn't open,
Not a proper locksmith, try some more.

The barrel can be drilled out and replaced, or depending ont he type of lock
    it can be picked.
Most locks can be opened witht he right tools.
The guy you got was probably some twat who just replaces locks rather than a
    proper locksmith.

    heh

I noticed a rather largish box sitting outside on the job site today so
I wandered buy to satisfy curiosity. It was a double door safe. There
was a grid pattern laid out on the door that had the locking mechanism
and six 13-mm holes drilled into it. Opened right up it did.

  16. Frighteningly simple it is, if you have the skills and the tools.
Awesome to watch. I worked with a bloke who did it for a hobby,
apparently they are very keen on it in Krautland for some strange
    reason.
    sounds like

I _have_ to try that. Seen it befrore, but that one also shows how to
    make the 'skeleton' key.

Won't work on Swiss locks, mind, as they're all of the straight, but
with various dimples on them, variety.

What he said. There are hundreds of great videos
on YouTube (and other similar places) if you search
for them. This was one of my favourites:

  20. Oddly enough not a million miles from Pickets Lock

This bloke saw a TV programme and decided he would have a go so he
bought a tenner set of 5 basic picks off the Internet and just started.
To help him on the way he asked people to donate simple locks so he
could practice. It wasn't long before he was searching for bits of
hacksaw blade to make picks that better fitted his paws and it sort of
    rolled from there.

Once he realised he had the real skills he looked to get training and
after taking advice from me about what to look for in a trainer booked
up with a firm in the Loughton area with a view to becoming professional
at it, that was when I lost contact with him.
