  1. I've been contemplating replacing the ShiteOld Saab, as you may know.

Local Nissan dealer, where The Doctor's Micra came from, has a Primera
2.2 DCi in stock - the common rail turbo diesel. Five-door hatch.

SE spec, so all the toys including cruise, satnav, climate control,
    reversing camera, etc etc,

Pre-reg (presumably to hit some target or other) in July, but zero
miles, so new. Presumably mine will be the second name on the logbook,
    then.

Price: three grand off list, so ukp14k, which strikes me as a good deal.
    Comments?

Oh, and anyone interested in a Saab 9000CSE? 2-litre normally aspirated
Ecopower lump, 1994M, 110k, new MoT, fsh (Saab main dealer until two
years ago; independent specialist since), new MoT, new genuine exhaust
last year, recent tyres and pads, spec includes cruise, climate control,
towbar, been reliable in the 40,000 miles and three years I've had it,
was rear-ended in 2002 but professionally repaired by Saab Wimbledon.

    SW London. 1500 quid.

53 reg 2lt petrol, 5k miles, SVE spec comes in at £10999 from Motorpoint
    - so although it's a good deal from the dealer, you're going to find one
    cheaper elsewhere.

Also at Ron Skinner's near me - 53 reg 2lt Petrol Estate SE, 1700 miles,
    £10299.

Suppose it depends on how much you value it being a few months younger,
    diesel and sat. nav.
I'd say you'd get £1200 for it, if you're lucky. There's dealers selling
them for less than that with under 100k miles on them.

Bad form and all that, but I'd look here before signing on the line,
seems they can do you an SE for £12800 brand new.

  6. Yeah, but I don't want a petrol one.

    See above.

The 2004 models had a slight cabin facelift - new instruments, and one
    or two other details.
Ta for that and the link. Question: do I value the after sales service
and convenenience of my local dealer at ukp1200?

    Answer: probably, yes.

Re the Saab - noted. I'm crap at car valuesm as you may have noticed.

OK, then - a grand to anyone here.....

UK sourced, so will be provided by an official Nissan dealer - these
guys buy in bulk from dealers / chains, and more than likely you'd be
picking up the car and paying for it at a Nissan dealer.

Still, £1200 isn't a huge amount of cash to save given the relative
amount of hassle in going via a broker.

I have to say this would be one of my main criteria if considering a
new car and I agree with Kiran's assessment. Go for a desirable brand
name - it'll grate as you pay more up front but you'll surely make it
back and then some when it comes to sale time.

Difference is that TOG's looking at an SE spec car, which is a fair bit
    more at list price.

That means that bits won't be dropping off within the next 10 years,
    then.

My brother's E36 is a right shed these days, and it's only a year older
    than my 155.

BMWs aren't what they were, and on the evidence of that Merc you hired
last year sometime when you came to MK, neither are Mercs.

Audi are probably still the best built car out there, but you pay a fair
whack for something the size and performance of the Primera.

I've been contemplating replacing the ShiteOld two#, as you may not
    know.

    I'm tempted by a mkII MR2.

Got about 2500 quid to spend, insurance isn't really a problem.

Comments? Other than "would you like to buy a Saab 9000", of course.

  13. True, but then this would be a long-term (ie: 10 years) purchase. Some
vehicles I hang onto - usually ones I buy new. Such as RD350 (eight
years), Ducati (seven years and counting).

So in those terms, by the time it's ten years old depreciation isn't
    really an issue.

    mrs looks blank
me explains "because he's a hairdresser"
mrs asks, with all honesty, "is that what he does?"

    I think it's a great idea.

He could use it as base for one of those really classy Ferrari replicas[1].

    How cool would _that_ be?[2]

[1] Guaranteed to look exactly like a real Ferrari[3].
[2] Hint for the hard-of-thinking: Not very.
[3] If Ferrari gave up producing new cars and just bolted bits on to old
    MR2s instead.

A quick look on Autotrader suggests that he could have bought a real
Ferrari for that money. There is an 82 Mondial with 60k on it for
    11k.
