What did you reckon of the Elise? Did you test drive one? And if so, was
it the old 1.8, the 111S, or the 111R?

The mrs has just bought a focus, and I feel like swapping my shitty old
    306 for something less practical...

I drove a 111S, though if I were buying one, I'd probably go for the
    111R...
....on the grounds that all of them are completely unpractical,
difficult to get in and out of, and completely silly, so it's best to
go for the fastest with the least comfortable suspension. Don't get
the wrong idea, the Lotus was a wonderful vehicle, but don't expect to
enjoy long-ish b-road journeys to be comfortable.

I bought a sensible sports coupe instead, because I at this stage I
actually want to use it as a car, rather than /just/ a toy. When I
change the RX-8 I may have also swapped the Jeep for a more handling-
focussed saloon car, so the "toy" can be sillier, and an Elise (or
even an Exige) may be on the cards in a couple of years time.
