And I was thinking I can't see myself ever owning a Jap. inline-4 again.

Mind you, I was never that interested in them anyway.

As I believe I mentioned to WUN at the weekend, for me the minimum
number of cylinders for a motorcycle engine is three. Four and six
    are also acceptable.

It is too early to buy a Guzzi with 8V engine: they are plagued with a
    lot of "youth" problems.
A friend bought a 8V Griso one year ago, it rode it only 5 months of 12.
the remaining 7 were spent wainting for parts from the (closed) factory...

He just get bored and swap it at the same dealer's for a Ducati HM.

It is rather sad because the Griso is a really fine bike, and Guzzi
seemed on the good way to recovery since making the first V11 back in
    1999.

I saw one at Trofeo Rosso several years ago: it is a real wonder on a par
with the V6 laverda (also seen at Trofeo Rosso) and Honda-6 that I saw
and heard at the 1997 TT.

I'd like to try one first, and I'm not aware that any 5-cylinder
production [1] motorcyle has ever been produced. But I'm sure someone
will be along shortly to educate me.

[1] there is of course the 5 cylinder 125 that Honda raced briefly in
    the late 60s:

    oh, production, schmuduction.

    I'm sure I would.

MCN have floated the story about a proddy version, on and off, almost
since the bike first appeared. If Honda follow the lead they set with
the NR750, I expect to a proddie version of the V5 in about 2017.

He then pushed it to the paddock, dumped the trashed fairing and return
for 3 more sessions. As it was one of the 3 remaining factory V6, the
mechanics were not too pleased. :)
Nice fun-loving bloke, and his sister is stunning.

A friend tried to follow him on the straights with his race bike (950
    LeMans) with mixed results:
