I'm busy flogging off bits of my 6R via eBay ATM* and I was just
wondering what the protocol was now the new seller-can't-neg rules are
    in place.

Are sellers now expected to leave feedback as soon as they recieve
payment, or do they wait until they know that the buyer isn't going to
    try to rip them off?

Also, have the new rules made sellers harsher with buyers, now that
they know they can neg with impunity?

    Any help,etc, etc.

    * Offers?

I usually wait until I've received feedback from the buyer, so that I
know they've received the goods as expected (i.e. the transaction is
    complete).
Vice versa, surely? I can't say I've noticed any difference.
I could leave the remains on my drive and see if the "Phantom Exhaust
    Snatchers" take it.

They took 2 bits of an ex-Fiat Coupe exhaust from my drive ... unfortunately
they left the other 2 bin bags of rubbish I'd been planning to take to the
    tip.

We had 'em in our yrad at work on Monday night.

They angle grinded the catalytic converters off every vehicle parked
    there.

Police were superb mind, we got a crime number issued so quickly. Not
really interested in catching the perps, but christ, they issued that
    crime number quickly.

Nobody's "expected" to do anything, really. The trouble is that, yes,
buyers can neg sellers with no worry of a comeback, and as Ebay's
feedback system now looks at your last few months' trading instead of
*all* of it, it's quite feasible to go from a 100% rating to a 50%
rating with just one neg, if you've only sold two items in the last
    few months.

    It's bloody silly, really.

As a seller, I leave FB the moment I have payment. As a buyer, I leave
it as soon as I have the item and have checked it's Ok and as
described. This "I won't leave FB unless I'm left it first" thing is
    bloody silly, IMHO.

Nothing worthwhile. Everyone uses Ebay because everyone uses Ebay,
    IYSWIM.

I've done <checks> well, I've got over 1000 FB comments left, so at
least that number of trades in seven years.

In that time, I've had just two bastard sellers. One sent me the wrong
item, and got narked because I left him neutral FB. He corrected the
error, but it caused me hassle and I thought it was fair. The other
was a French conman selling counterfeit Honda decals, and despite me
and others reporting him, he's still at it.

Bastard buyers, though - the list goes on and on. Invariably people
who win auctions, and then present an endless list of excuses why they
can't take delivery after all, or who just ignore everything and you
never hear from. I send people reminders after two weeks, initiate the
NPB procedure after three, and always, always neg NPBs.

One of the worst was the Jock who won my old SOHC Honda CB750F2 - the
one I took to Chimay three years ago. It was a really good bike, stock
except for a Motad, and I'd spent a lot of time and a fair bit of
money on it. The engine had been badly repainted, and there were minor
cosmetic flaws here and there, but nothing major. And I mentioned in
the auction that I was taking it to Belgium the weekend it timed out,
because I trusted it so much. I also asked low-FB bidders to get in
touch with me first. This twunt placed a winning bid in the last 20
seconds, and when he turned up to collect, complained about all the
cosmetic flaws I'd mentioned in the description, said it was "fit only
    for scrap", and fucked off.

For the record, this was the bike:

    http://www.chateau.murray.dsl.pipex.com/Ebay/CB750F2.1.jpg (and .2.pg
    and .3.jpg and .4.jpg)

So I negged him, got a neg back, and in the feedback, he complained
that it hadn't been washed. Yeah, that's because it got back from a
500-mile Continental trip hours before you came for it.
Campsieshooting was his username: Jock code for 'objectionable ****'.

Ebay's 'protect the buyer' policy sticks in my throat, slightly.

That makes you a bad person. When I said the same thing I was told
that leaving feedback as soon as payment was received was wrong
because the buyer could neg you and leave you unable to retaliate. Eh?
If they've paid promptly then surely their part of the agreement has
been completed and they should be judged on that alone and not if they
choose to complain about the goods when they arrive.

Well that's fair enough if they've got a legitimate complaint, but what if
they are obviously trying it on or just plain out to con you. Say, for
example, they bought an iPod or an X-Box off you, claimed it was broken and
then sent you back their knackered one - wouldn't you want the chance to
    leave a negative comment then?

    <Remembers who he's talking to>

Ah, why leave a neg when you can just nip round and break their arms, eh?

    Good plan.

No, no - think as well as telling you how many times a user has been negged
or how many NPB strikes they've got eBau should tell you how many times
    they've had their kneecaps done.
I can sincerely say that if I made a "People I wouldn't **** with" list your
name would be right at the top.
