Paging the electricisti

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Whinging Courier, Jul 9, 2006.

  1. I may have asked this before but if I have a 14Ah battery in my bike,
can I, for short bursts use an accessory that's rated at 18amps without
    fucking the electrics?

I'm no electrician, but I always fort a 14Ah battery would provide 14A
for an hour. Nowt to do with max load - that's what fuses are for.

Otherwise, a bike with a 4Ah battery wouldn't be able to put the
    headlamp on.

I'm sure your starter motor draws way more than 18 amps....

  6. I take it you aren't particularly mech/elec minded or you would notice that
your starter pulls more current in small bursts and also that fitting
something that pulls more than the capacity of the battery will only be
    supplemented by the alternator mostly.

Unless you don't tell your current "Bitch" to unplug her vibrator while
riding on the back all will be well.

For about 3/4 hour you can, even if the batt's not on charge.

    Yersh.

The item in question, if it is ever fitted, will have its own wiring but
that's a good point and one I'd not thought of.

I don't normally bother with fuses unless the accessories come fitted
with them already but I think you may have a point with this one.

You can always spray it matte black though.
