In a salad, or buffet based meal that is very true, but this is more of
a sit down meal, and a plate of veg with no gravy is not very
appetising and shows a lack of imagination IMHO.

I don't really mind veggie food once in a while, but have found it hard
to buy any thing appetising, and lack the culinary skills to fabricate
    a passable nut cutlet.

Last time SWMBO did a veggie lasagne, they didn't like the aubergine.

Depending on how fussy they are you could probably get away with some
fish, squid rings or perhaps a hash, risotto, something with a cheese
sauce perhaps. Vegetarian food doesn't have to be boring or a nut
cutlet. What about a pizza, lasagne and all of the other good
    non-meaty stuff around.

Bin the aubergine, stick the usual veggies in it, a can of peeled
plumb tomatoes and a bag of the old style Vegemince.

    Beanfeast may also assist you.

Mr ex sister in law used to feed me with vegemince when I stayed there.

I dunno what it exactly did to my stomach, but the end result was most
certainly toxic, and assaulted one's sense of smell in it's gaseous,
    liquid (and semi liquid) forms.

You'd have more success trying to find the pot of gold at the end of a
rainbow, or a warehouse full of new 350LCs that the owner is flogging
off at £100 each as they are old stock and he needs the space.

I've eaten a lot of veggie stuff in the past (more because I enjoy
variety in my food than anything else) and I've never had a decent nut
cutlet or nut loaf type thing. All dreadful.

The old man did some work for Batchelors around the time I first left
home, and he used to turn up at my festering shithole on a regular
basis with bags full of Vesta meals (I still have an addiction to their
Chow Mein), and sachets of Beanfeast.

It didn't matter which flavour you had with your noodles / pasta, the
ensuing gasfest was always the same.

Highly recommended to anyone feeling a bit bored of loosening their
    bowels with All Bran.

Throw it in the bin and tell them that out of respect you're going to eat
vegetarian as well. The meat isn't meat, it's just Quorn...

Reminds me of the GBS meets dizzy actress joke.

Actress: "We should marry, with your brains and my looks think what
    amazing children we'd have"

GBS: "And what if they have your brains and my looks madam"

Do they cook meat when you visit? If not, ****'em.
I chop BNS up and chuck it in a beef stew. Makes a good thickener.

  15. Aye.

A concept my mother could never quite grasp as she shovelled ever more

Insoluble fibre versus soluble fibre. Without dwelling on the reasons
why I know, let me just say that fruit and high water content vegetables
like beetroot and courgettes your friend.

SWMBO does some really acceptable vegetarian stuff quite often even
though we are not veggie. Something based on lentils and aubergines that
is actually surprisingly tasty, a celeriac/beetroot dish that is quite
special, stir-fried red cabbage with onion & apple, and not forgetting
the classic red pepper stuffed with rice/walnuts.

  20. I changed my diet earlier on in the year so it contained a lot more
fruit and veg, less shite like crisps, coke (the drink, not the
powder), and started to drink a lot more water.

Net result has been (even though I've been a bit lax of late), is I
feel much better for it, I'm not so 'bunged up', don't suffer with
colds all the time, and when I do get one it's not hanging around for
    weeks on end.

And hangovers, which were savage and happening every time I had a few
    have become a distant memory.
