    Not at all. It's virtually impossible to remove a gene for a specific
    phenotype like that from the genome. cf Peppered moths.

    Ahh, but it's also functional. Firstly ginger kids provide a focus
    for all the other children to tease, and secondly ginger hair and fair
    skin mean that the body can produce more vitamin D in low light
    conditions (which is probably how the genetic variation became
    favoured).
