Job interview tomorrow in Cambourne, nine miles east of St Neots on the A428. Coming from NW London on the A1, Google Maps reckons turn off at Baldock onto the A505 towards Royston, then A1198 (Royston Road). However, I'm tempted to stay on the A1 to St Neots then onto the A428 - looks a bit further but might be faster[1]. What says the FOAK? [1] For the purposes of this journey, I'd rather blat up a dual-carriageway than wobble around twisties. -- TD 1991 VFR400R NC30 (black and red) 2001 ZX-9R (red and black) 1999 M5 (neither black nor red) Missing: SOB, Unreliable Italian exotica, Lardy tourer
The A428 out of St Neots is twistier and slower with blind bends. The A505 is dualled and fast but watch for two speed cams. The A1198 is a dead straight road into Cambourne with lots of overtaking potential. I'd go 505 and 1198 but the choice is yours.
Ta. I'll do as you and Google suggest. -- TD 1991 VFR400R NC30 (black and red) 2001 ZX-9R (red and black) 1999 M5 (neither black nor red) Missing: SOB, Unreliable Italian exotica, Lardy tourer
I'd go one route and come back the other route. Both are fine on motorbikes. A1198 is part old-Roman road, one lane each direction but very wide so encourages overtaking. (a bit like the Epping road). It's mainly dead-straight but with blind dips/summits so watch out for dodgy overtakers and people pulling out of side-turns. Good luck with the interview.
Dunno if it is as wide as the Epping road but it did the job all the same. You want me, don't you? -- TD 1991 VFR400R NC30 (black and red) 2001 ZX-9R (red and black) 1999 M5 (neither black nor red) Missing: SOB, Unreliable Italian exotica, Lardy tourer
