  1. The Doctor wants to get rid of the large speakers attached to our
gramophone. She wants mini-speakers because these take up so much space.

Big things made by Leak: about two feet tall and a foot across.

Date from late 1970s. Rather good sound quality.

Worth anything or is it a Freecycle job?

  2. Umm... 3080s, by any chance?

    Excellent bits of kit.
Not so much worth much money if they're needing re-coned by now, as most
of them are, but worth having if someone's prepared to take them on.
    Re-coned they are bloody good.

IIRC Leak are a bit classis, but that's about as much as I know.

Worth a punt on Fleabay, I reckon. My Quad amp *alone* seems to be going for
a couple of hundred notes. Leak was good kit: we had a Delta 30 amp, which
    was superb.

My Michi pre/power is possibly the only thing I own which is worth more
now than when I bought it (other than the house, that is)

A mate has some of those, they are utterly superb, just fucking huge.
As I say, made just round the corner from me. In the Wharfedale factory

I'd have thought eBay would be worth a try, lots of Leak/Thorens-era stuff on
    there for the vinyl crusties

  15. There should be a model number on a plate on the back - Leak plates are
usually a decent size. The 3080s tell you on the front anyway.

Interesting. I don't think I've actually ever heard one, and they are
    pretty ugly.

  18. No, nothing like that. A round sticker with 5667 is all there is - that
looks like a shop's stock control number.

  19. My Quads are currently talking to a very nice pair of Acoustic Research
speakers. Lovely deep warm sound, the ARs.
My Arcam gear should be with me in the next few days: been built, being
factory tested. I'm dead excited. Be interesting to see what the Quad gear
gets on Fleabay, too. And how the ARs sound with the Arcam.

So *that's* where I've been going wrong!
Well, normally I'd be one of them, but hey, each to their own. I *like*
Arcam kit, and some of the high end Tannoys are super. Personally I'm
happy with my Cyrus and MA GR10s which I think are literally
un-believable. Every time I stick something on, I seriously cannot
believe how much bass comes out of these little boxes. And it's all
    totally controlled and balanced.

Heh. One of my favourite classical pieces. In either version. The CD
I have has the Mussrgsky version, Portraits at an exhibition, then the
    Rimsky-Korsakov at the end IIRC.
