I'd be interested to see how much less believable that kind of setup
makes music compared to my £300 or so worth of Richer Sounds finest Mix
    'n Match.

  3. There's so little info about Leaks, it'd be hard to tell just what they
are, then. I wonder if they were re-badged Wharfedales, made after
    Wharfedale took Leak over.

Otoh, I found the existing staff of Wharfedale really helpful when it
came to finding out about re-coning my 3080s (but the cost of it meant
they were consigned to the tuit shelf for a few years) and it seems
there are still some ex-Leak people around in the Wharfedale factory who
know the range inside out. That was a few years ago, mind, so whether
    they're still there...

IIRC I've actually got the same Mission floorstanders as you, or some
v.similar ones, but mine are the beech finish version. It's the amp
that lets my side down, being a fairly average Denon.. but it sounds ok
to my ears. Might get upgraded if/when I go the home cinema route, once
    my TV dies.

I normally get that when I turn the volume up

.... accompanied by words in a foreign tongue I don't understand

I think you are probably correct. ICBA to check though.

Depends. I've owned both over the years. Feel free to bring yours over
for a comparative listen if you wish.

I'm still using my Delta 30. Bought new in 197(mumble). Works fine.
And my speakers are Leak Sandwich 250s.

    You're almost utterly wrong.
ESLs lack distortion and compression. All you hear is the music.
It can be deceptive; you don't think they are playing loud but they are
and you only realise how loud when you can't hear the phone ringing.

They may get "seriously miffed" when the protection circuit cuts in but
you should attenuate your inputs so that kids can turn it up to eleven
without overloading them (this applies to all speakers, not just Quad).
If that isn't loud enough then electrostatics are not for you.

It would be fair to point out that they don't go down to 20Hz
but there are few speakers that actually do.
