Paging the ignition-switchisti

  1. Right, got the top yoke off, and undone the shear bolts with a dremel and
punch. Surprisingly easy. I'll probably replace the ignition switch, but it
can't hurt to have a go at taking it apart (tm Lozzo) - try and rescue the top
bit so I can use the same key. In fact if I can do that, I can reuse both the
    top and bottom.

I've removed the two small round covers next to the key slot, uncovering some,
er, things. Are these another, smaller set of shear bolts? If not, HTF do I
    get the switch apart?

Buy a new switch. The whole thing comes apart from underneath, the lock
itself stays in the top part, don't try to remove it from its housing.

The ignition swith is basically a lock sat on top of a switch, held
together by two screws accessible from underneath.

    In
I did this with my K when the switch died, as you say saved having different
keys. On mine there was a small grub screw under a blob of sealing paint
that once undone allowed the lock part to be swapped over.
