Are the memory upgrades for these (LJ5) really just SIMMS? Can I raid them
out of old machines, and have I got to worry about EDO vs normal and parity?

  2. I've got a couple of memory modules from LaserJets[1]; not sure which
models they fit tho', I'll try to remember to check tomorrow.

    [1] 1x4MB, 1x8MB from memory <hah!>

Genius. Give me a shout if you have any idea what they fit (72pin SIMM is
    what these take).

  4. Looks like you're right, the LJ5 takes standard memory, not the
special [(hp)] units. Take a look at
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...ale=en_US&prodSeriesId=25479&prodTypeId=18972
    for the nitty-gritty:
"Specifications for the HP LaserJet 5/5M/5N memory SIMMs (does not include
    flash memory) are:
    o 72-pin
    o 32-bit
    o 70 ns"

I've also got a metric shitload of 72-pin SIMMs if you can't come
up with any yourself. Some of the "equivalents" on offer mention that they
are Fast Page Mode (FPM) but the above spec suggests that's nowt out of the
    ordinary.

I've had a bit of a google on this. Basically the HP SIMMs are just normal
SIMMs with a couple of pins grounded that aren't generally grounded on, but
it's a fairly trivial job to sort with a soldering iron as the pads are
already there. I've already had several offers of SIMMs but I'll get in
touch if I need em. Getting tempted to build a machine that'll run a few
    games of yore...
