Not before this reads like a cheap paperback novel.

and when someone who knows answers you you take this piss and shoot the
messenger because you don't like them.
The fact you're asking questions proves you aren't qualified to
determine who is clueless and who isn't.
No, you just didn't understand what I was saying.

You're doing 50 mph in a straight line.
    You want to turn right.
Which way do you turn the handlebars?

An experienced biker or engineer will know the answer is "left"

Everyone else, aka "clueless fucktards" will say "right", and they just
flatly won't listen to, much less believe, any explanation given.

    fine, it's your life, literally.
you had an opportunity to learn something useful for sure, money saving
for sure, and possibly / probably life saving to boot.
you were more interested in exercising your smart mouth on someone you
    decided you don't like.
who lost what and who gained what out of this little exchange?
I lost 5 minutes of my day.

It can't be. Loz already has kids.

The whole "darwinism" thing is dull and stupid.

I thought for a minute there you wanted a recommendation for a hard rock
    album or something.

Don't get stainless, get those pretty aluminium alloy ones that are marked
"do not use for high load applications" - they'll be fine. If you get the
ones that are anodised in pretty colours, you'll find they are stronger than
the ones that are boring aluminium colour, and of the coloured ones the pink
    ones are strongest.

PS Not really, I was kidding, honest.

I'd have said titanium too, purely from the galvanic corrosion point of
view.... but... I've only read a bunch of articles off the internet
    about metals.

One little diagram was an eye opener about half way down this page...

    http://www.classicmarine.co.uk/Articles/metals.htm

the Galvanic chart. Which is why you shouldn't use copper with Aluminum
also, which was why I was going on about using copper grease with alloy
brakes a while back. :) I know it's about boats, but bikes that get
ridden all year round covered in salt and water too.

Titanium would be a preference tbh, but it's finding a company prepared
to warrant them as being suitable for brakes.

I have seen stainless ones available that are warranted as suitable, so
I figured if someone's selling them retail then I can get the same thing
from an engineering supplies company or fasteners supplier for far less
money. I just need to know what grade of stainless I need.

Typically the advice is no more than 0.5V potential difference (pd
measured wrt a hydrogen electrode), but in sea water this would be
halved. I used to work on marine gas turbines so stainless steels at
0.2V in contact with certain high tensile (non-stainless) steels at
    0.65V was a big 'no-no'.

I have a 'parchment' nomogram that lists all the pd's for common alloys.
I'll see if I can get it scanned and I'll post it on-line.

I'd still go with Titanium alloys even if I wasn't an 'all year round'
rider. We often get problems with 12% Chromium steels (even when
painted) and rarely see a corrosion problem with Titanium alloys.

Heh, yes... I guess that you'd have to do better than just pick a random
bolt out of a tub of bolts on those. :)
That would be good to keep in my collection of documents.

At a guess, you'd need something like proper aircraft type spec
titanium, not normal, what yamaha titanium engine valves are made of
    type stuff.

Just finding out what the metal the manufacturers use would be ok would
    it?

  16. I fail to see what the failure mode of SS in swimming pool applications
has to do with disc fasteners. Chloramines common in road use, then?

    ...not 'golf club'.
Specification. Ask for the material specification. If they don't know or
    can't find out, walk away.

At least if you've got a specification, it'll mean something to someone
who knows about that sort of thing, or you'll be able to google for it.
