The first thing I thought when the coloured fractal patters appeared was
    "Acid Flashback".

    It's quite given me a notion ;o)

Yeah, those symptoms are bang on for the worst ones I get. Normally I
don't the numbness but it does happen occasionally.

Only way I can sort them is to take some Migralieve and head for bed.

Well thanks to everyone for the recollections and comparisons and advice.
It seems to be the culprit.

Oh what a shame, Friday in bed with ice packs and hot tea, waiting for nurse
    to call in later.

    <gets on form>

    Not an NHS nurse obviously.
They don't wear the right uniform and underwear any more.

I've not had a migraine since my teenage years, which is something I'm
really keen to be a hard and fast rule, I've heard that you *can* 'grow
out of them' which would be lovely.

It's amazing what feelings of rage the slackjawed wankers who 'get on
with life' regardless of their 'migraine' can cause, I can't think of
any method to get them to experience one though, aside from a load of
LSD and a truck parked on their face.

I'm curious how many migraine sufferers also experience synaesthesia. I
generally experience synaesthesia as if it were a sudden and profound
memory, as if I don't directly see colours, but aquire a memory of
having seen then a second ago. The point is that many of the migraine
aura I've had are as if I can directly SEE the things that usually
arrive as a memory. Then three days of shards of glass in my head, yum.

My ex wife had them regularly. She said gleefully this morning... see SEE
I've always thought it a fascinating condition. If you could refine a
version of LSD that incorporated a similar effect it would go down a storm.

Oddly, LSD is now being touted as a potential cure for cluster
    headaches.

  12. I hadn't really encountered a migraine sufferer before until a few
months back. A friend of mine rang and asked if I could do her a
favour. She was staying at her parents' house but they were away. She
asked if I could take her to hospital. No worries. Went over and got
her. I could see the agony she was in. We initially went to the wrong
entrance and they redirected us to emegency. I'd left her totally
useless younger brother minding my car while I helped her inside. When
we came back out into the light she couldn't handle it so went back
in and got a wheelchair and wheeled her around to the other entrance.

It was horrible to see the pain she was in. I've had enough fun with
pain over the years - broken ribs 4 times (which I find a walk in the
park compared to other things), gout (oh joy), torn soft tissue in my
chest (makes broken is seem hilarious) and this year the fun of sever
back pain which had me screaming in bed if I moved slightly.

But watching what Kate was going through was awful. I hope she does
grow out of it. She'd had them before but this was the worst. My ex
used to get them before we got together, which was when she was 24.
Kate is 24 now so with some luck she may lose them over the next few
    years?

  14. I find that a little weird. I ended up in Emergency earler this year
from taking half a tab of acid when I was run down and under stress
(this is a lie Mr Plod, or if you believe me you can travel 20,000km
and come and arrest me) and it sent my brain into reverse. I spent a
week in hospital and they had to teach me to walk again. It was a
stupid thing to do when I was in that frame of mind and never want to
go through that hell again. I would have thought if you were under the
stress of a migraine, LSD would be the last thing that would help.
    MDMA maybe . . .

She might or she might not. I find mine are getting a little rarer but I
still get them - one year I get fewer, the next year I get more of
them. But I seem to have outgrown the "twice a month" migraines I used
    to get.

Again, one of the important things to do is to work out what triggers
the migraine and try to work around it or against it.

Heh. But really, Ben's a bit of a lightweight these days. I think we
only polished off another two bottles of red after his guests had
    left.

But I'm quite tempted to pop over again, actually, as Ben might not be
    there...

  20. Ahh, I didn't pick up that this was a long time back. Yeh, they
thought LSD was going to be a wonder drug for a while didn't they.
I've only tried it three times. The first two were good fun. The third
backfired big time. Not going there again.
