I used to get migraines as a child.

Virtually every Saturday afternoon at one point.

It would start with me feeling tired and yawning... constantly.

And then the pain would kick in - I felt like I was being poked over
and over again in my left eye.

Nothing sorted it out really - the next stage, whatever I did be it
try and get some sleep or take headache pills or whatever, would be I
    would throw up.

Once I'd done that, a dark room and me laying on the floor with my
left temple firmly pressed against the floor would enable me to sleep
    it off.

    Why every Saturday afternoon?

Because I was allowed to stay up late on a Friday as there was no
school the next day, and I'd not normally make up for the lost sleep
over a normal week day by way of sleeping in later the next morning.

Other triggers for me appeared to be cucumber, cheese, and cheap
    orange squash.

Anyway, I grew out of it - I still get bad headaches from time to
time, but not of that magnitude... thank ****.

Good luck with getting it sorted.

  4. Fun eh?
Yup. Add in rampant photophobia and you have what I was experiencing
    several years ago.

Since my change of job (8 months) I've had only one or two a month
and stopped taking the pizotifen that was helping to prevent them..

And I've also been able to wean myself off haunting UKRM so it's a
    win-win situation for everybody.

  5. Probably intravenous sumatriptan. It's one of the few things that works
reliably on the majority of sufferers.
Mine range from just a bad pain in one side of the head to pretty much
what Hog described. So yes - a bad migraine but nothing exceptional.

If Hog gets more of them it's worth seeing the quack. There are all
sorts of things that can help (from taking propranolol on a regular
basis to more exotic stuff like pizotifen. Some affect your faculties
more than others (propranolol made my brain feel like it was wrapped in
soggy cotton-wool for example - and didn't significantly reduce the
    amount or severity of migraines).

You can also buy sumatriptan over the counter nowadays.

  6. Yup. Bending down feels like your head is going to explode.
C has had precisely two migraines in her life. Both in the last 3 years
    - before which she wasn't overly sympathetic to mine. Afterwards she
    was much more sympathetic.
Stress did it for me (and having parents who both used to have them).
Food doesn't seem to trigger it.
<Waves pocket pack of sumatriptan and Nurofen Plus>

As I sad previously - now I'm in a much lower stress job my migraines
have reduced to a much much lower number.

  7. I see sounds sometimes as part of a migraine - and it's a pattern very
    similar to yours.
Mine go through the classic pattern - one day of incredible activity
where I can do 15 things at once and everying seems really easy.
Followed by a day of the full-on migraine and then 3 days of feeling
like my brain has been beaten with a baseball bat.
