  2. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, mike. buckley
For a false APU fire indication.

It failed safe, no worries[1], no real drama. Pilot came across very
well in the interview, I thought.

[1] Albeit a few airborne arseholes shutting with a bang...

Awesome! One of my most abiding youth memories is having my innards
shaken by the noise of a Vulcan on take-off at an airshow at RAF
Waddington, then doing a low-pass fly-by and then hitting the gas to
climb to **** knows where in a minute or so.

That was before the noise abatement fascists started complaining about
aircraft noise scaring cattle in the peaceful Lincolnshire countryside.....

I am 10 miles from Humberside Airport where they used to do air shows,
and had a Vulcan display. Even at that distance, the roar was pretty
impressive as it lofted over the Humber.

About the only thing I remember from airshows as a kid was seeing an
SR-71 at Mildenhall some time around 1984. That and seeing the space
    shuttle at Stansted, anyway.

    Farnborough 1975 - SR71 & C5A Galaxy on static display, Concorde &
    Harriers flying[1][2].
    Eh?

I had the Airfix kit of that!

[1] Plus a touch & go "landing" for Concorde due to the length of the
    runway.
[2] Seeing a plane hover and go backwards was pretty amazing for an
    11-year old.

The SR-71 was flying at this one - I'm guessing 1983 or 1984. All I saw
in 1975 was the inside of an ovary.

Heh. I was expecting that response from somebody.

    God I feel old.

I worked on the P1127, the forerunner of the Harrier, and then Harriers, Sea
Harriers and Matadors (Sea Harriers for the Spanish Navy), plus Sea Hunters
and Hawks until 1979 when I moved on to the AEW Nimrod program.

There's a tank museum up by Cromer with a Harrier out front that was saved
from the scrapyard, that I remember signing-off for it's original flight
test at Dunsfold - now the Stig's playground.

I was there at a display for foreign military.

Lightnings burning holes through the upper cloud layer.
Vulcans taking off doing Immelmann turns and landing again.
    Awesome.
