Can anyone recommend a good independant garage for service, say 50 mile
    radius of Newbury, Berks?

    TIA

If they're still going, G Force Motorsport in Aylesbury. They used to
run the factory GT1 team when they were called Dage, so about as good
    as it gets.

    I haven't.[1]

Tis a colleague's wot sits nearly opposite me.

[1] Nor am I likely to, I've never 'got' Porsches. Only very briefly
driven a 911, at least I think that's what it was.

Not being familiar with the disposition of your team today, care to give
me initials? So I can laugh?
    Dunno. I went through a phase at about 14 I suppose. I wanted a 928.
Still do in an odd sort of way, but really never see my buying any
Porsche. I've not met a Porsche driver that wasn't at least partly a
wanker.[1] Odds are not good that this incident is going to change things ;)

[1]TBSF they were all wankers for other reasons, not because they drove
    Porsches.

You might want to be a tad careful opening your post for the next few
    days.

Keep an eye open in case Aldi offer cheap Geiger counters, too.
