Pyramids is one of my favourites and a little off on its own as far as
not relying on knowing about previously established characters. Gaspode
and You Bastard are well up their on my list of all time favourite
    characters.

If I'm going to recommend a Pratchett book, and by god it's a big if,
then Small Gods has to be a winner.

As opposed to ebay auctions, where any old first edition (Small Gods
onwards, offers open now) is worth proper pocket money (Hogfather
excepted, that already went to some muppet for a week's worth of
    beers)...

  3. Hm. Tim Broadribb, Cuddles, Hilary Broadribb.... erm, brain's gone blank.
I'll bet we have met, though. DId you ever frequent anything like the 'Tun
    London mob meetings?

  4. Oh, well, we must have met. I did a couple of Albacons at the Central -
there was one which was also a B5 con. Plus, I was committee and staff for
both Glasgow Worldcons, did you do those? Cuddles is a sweetheart, not seen
her for years - give her my felicitations, she might remember me. I know
Jette Goldie a little, and also... damn, woman who was a serous Highlander
fan. We ran a con with Peter Wingfield, and she was *jelly*.
