If you finally intend to come dahn sarf here, I can set up one like
this to prepare some routes or comment on what you plan.

Tech details: Back-end is powered by (ehem) an spreadsheet shared in
Google Docs, which extremely eases the development of the user
interface, user management and permission management. Data is then
accessed via PDBC (Pikey DataBase Connection) which consists of
exposing the spreadsheet as CSV and getting it from PHP with
fgetcsv($url). Not bad for an evening work at home (with previous
    knowledge of Gmaps API)

Ooooh. Noted, bookmarked and generally stored away where I won't
forget it. We're about to think seriously about a Pyrenoid holiday
late summer, ending up in Barcelona.

You're not the other Brits staying at Jens on 6th & 7th Sept are you? We're
having a BBQ on the 7th apparently.

I'm not sure what that all means, but in GoogleMaps, just below the
Google logo is a button called "My Maps." Click that, and another
button appears - "Create New Map"
Click that, and in the map window there is another drop-down button
with a squiggly line on it. Under it is the option to draw lines along
roads. You can add comments and markers. Dunno if that's the interface
you used, or if yours is easier to manipulate. I've created a bunch of
those maps, and they are good, but not 100% user-friendly.
    An example:

Let's say that the site+Google Docs is intended for sharing the maps
of several individuals, who actually save the maps in My Maps as you
say. Main goal was being able to compare similar routes.
    Nice one.
