Gotta go to Chipping Norton from Luton later this week accompanying a friend
who is running in his new ZZR1400. Any decent roads worth heading for? We'll
be in no rush so any reasonable detour for a nice stretch of tarmac would be
    fine.

I used to go from Aylesbury to Chipping Norton (& onwards to mid Wales
for trail riding) via Bicester & the Heyfords all the time, but that
was decades ago so I can't remember what the roads were like. Helpful
    eh?

Aylesbury, Buckingham, Finmere bypass, Croughton, Aynho, Deddington,
    Hempton, Chipping Norton.

The only boring bit is between Buckingham and the A43 just before
Croughton but the rest of it is pretty good entertainment. If you want
more of the same then go on to Stow on the Wold and use any of the
    minor roads heading towards Cheltenham.

just suggested the same route but suggested going on to Stow and
chasing rabbits up the back roads towards Cheltenham.

I've always been a big fan of the B4009:

I recall that road (or at least, the section between Asshole CVlinton
and Bendover) as being as bumpy as ****.
