Fortunately I live miles from civilisation so it's only 5 miles from
me, my only qualm it the fact it is so complete and original, seems a
shame to use it on the salted roads, even with a coat of AF50.

I've been trying to phone the seller all morning to arrange a viewing
but he's not answering his phone.
    Cheers for the advice.

Same principle. Built for cart tracks.
OK, clever clogs, show me a Bantam engine with the mains lubricated by
gearbox oil. Clatter schmatter - it the engine makes noises it needs
    money spent.
Bantam small ends do not give problems, its a totally different engine
only marginally related to the Bantam.
You are hooked on a meme - get over it.

I suppose at least he can chop it in in part-ex against something worth
    being seen dead on.

Nazi Germany was not the same peasant economy as the 1930s Soviet Union.

Check seal order on right hand side - main is lubed by gearbox oil. Left
hand side is dry - receives lube from petroil.
    http://www.sweller.dynalias.org/docs/Pages from D14manual.pdf

It's reversed on an MZ but same dual bearing arrangement of the clutch
    side.

Occasional fault is the engine sucks in gearbox oil - usually if it's
been stood for a long period and the seals have failed. Smells vaguely
    like frying onions.

Not necessarily - I can rebuild TS engines quickly and cheaply.

Admittedly it was only one of my TS that ate small ends - Bantams had
brass bushes and 70s/80s TS have needle bearings that don't like being
over-revved. Early German RT/ES engines also have bushes.

Looking up detail on the pre-war deal I can't find my MZ book - Wikipedia
claims the Bantam to be part of war reparations. Still the same RT based
    engine. So wrong again.

    It's not a meme - it's a fact.

of water & probably good fun...

  10. Very true. OTOH, something cheap to run with a reputation for solidity,
and shaft driven as well, is just what an impecunious studen with zero
    mechanical sympathy needs.

  11. See Sweller's reply. In any case, MZ paintwork was always very thick and
durable and the quality of the alloy castings top-notch.

Chrome used to pit a bit, but you can't have everything.

Any student sober enough to ride a bike without being significantly over
the limit is missing the point of being a student.

Fucking useless as a town hack, in fact they're fucking useless at
pretty much everything involving tarmac - I know because I had one.
Their only purpose on this planet is to teach the previously inept how
to pull good wheelies, at least that's all mine got used for.

You've not been around long enough to know that when Sweller says
anything about MZs, you know it'll be correct and on the button. He
probably knows more about MZs than any person who was ever employed at
    Zschopau.

Bugger, out sniped, it went for £275, I went to see it earlier and it
was in lovely condition and covered in old waxoyl, but the seller
couldn't start it as he was still awaiting a battery for it, so I
stuck to a max bid of £250, bugger.
    Oh well, back to e-bay.
