What's the weather like down there?
Is it worth my setting off down the M11 and M25 via Dartford to Gatwick
    this evening?
Or should I stay at home and have a nice cup of tea instead?

Wasn't going to the airport, just the general vicinity.
How do you know? http://www.trafficengland.co.uk suggests otherwise.
Is there a better source of up-to-date info?

It's coming down quite hard - I just walked down to my garage and came
    back the proverbial snowman.

I was due to go to Newcastle (from Brighton) tomorrow - I'm pretty
    confident that won't be happening...

Have you considered getting the train, instead of driving/riding?

    The job's fallen apart.

Trains are still running but the East Coast are running at reduced speed,
reduced frequency service [1] and I need to get to Newcastle and back in
    a day.

Southern's struggling with ice on the third rail, displaced units and at
a guess tomorrow a lack of train crews as people can't get into work.

Brighton and Hove have pulled their entire bus service.

M25 is pretty fucked too, putting even more strain on the rail system as
    motorists use the railways.

The only journey that's necessary is the one to the kitchen to make tea.

[1] Cheap "on a shoestring" OHLE and snow don't play nicely.

    No problems.
Roads clear of snow and traffic until a few miles south of Dartford.
They don't seem to know about grit south of the river though.

Trains south of Croydon completely suspended - and looking at my road I'd
imagine the M23/25 will be closed, that's if you can get out of town...

  19. More fresh snow - a couple of inches - down our way last night. I'm
doubting that Kempton Park is a goer on Saturday.
