Which makes it a tad unlikely there will be much of an abrasive effect.

Doctors are the same as tech support. "Try this. Come back if it doesn't
    work."

I was okay with them for about 5 years before my eyes told me "no
more". I'm now on daily disposables, which are fine.

I was under the impression that coatings don't "sit" on the lenses, they
become part of them through some chemical reaction or other.

I've never had any issues with coatings and washing up liquid is one of the
milder things to get used on my cpecs. Even biological washing powder does
    n't seem to affect them.

I've never had a satisfactory explanation from an optician as to why.
One talked about heart rate, another talked about foreign objects, I'd
love to know the real story. All I know is the lenses went in, my eyes
slammed shut (to the point that the optician doing the fitting couldn't
remove the lenses until I was out), all colour drained from my face and
I blacked out. Next thing I knew I was laying on the floor being given a
cup of water and told that maybe, just maybe, lenses weren't for me.

My eyes are really sensitive to having anything in them. It seems that
includes things designed for the role. Bummer, huh?

You shouldn't have let the wife/gf catch you reading those types of
    magazine.

  11. Having extreme myopia (and hence being in the high-risk group for
    glaucoma) doesn't help either.

Just out of interest, what classes as "extreme"? My last test (a year
ago - time for another) was -6.25 sph, -0.25 cyl both eyes.

I have a -20.00 sph +6.00 cyl job going around here at the moment.

    That's pretty extreme.

I have visions of someone wearing glasses using the lenses from
    projector-type headlights...

I was rather impressed with the glasses you made for Fr. Jack. Once I
have an up-to-date prescription I think I may be in touch with you.

And here I thought my -5.75 sph -4.50 cyl lhs and -3.25 sph -1.75 cyl
    rhs was bad.

  17. Dunno. But I would love to have your prescription. (-9.5 (1.5) & -11.5
    (2)).

Which is why I wear hard gas-perms and not soft.

And yet IIRC you, like me, are a Type 2 Diabetic (as well as having
several other medical crosses of your own to bear). My optician
steadfastly refuses to consider prescribing contacts to me, or any
    other diabetic.

    DR, Nov 27, 2007

  20. Well - I've had contacts since I was 18 which is (counts on fingers,
removes shoes and socks) 24 years now. And my optician is perfectly
happy to sell me contacts (and he's the one that did my last diabetic
eye check) so I'd query why your optician is being such a pain.

Nothing about being T2 diabetic should stop you having contacts!
