Paging the tool pikeys

  1. I'm sure she has.
You know me better than that. There's a reason that they are able to
sell it so cheaply. If you study the ingredients lists and nutritional
values of many (but not all) foods in the 'pikey' end of the spectrum,
it's quite obvious that some of them really probably shouldn't be fit
    for consumption.

Besides, Tesco Value bread, and most other cheap bread is minging.

  2. Well yes, obviously.
So you would agree that some of the other stuff is less than ideal if
one is in a position to choose?

Just about everything in the UK is cheaper than it is in Belgium.

Pretty much any value product containing meat and definitely the
processed meats such as sausages, pies, prepared meals is crap.

Aldi, Lidl, Tesco, Sainsburys. All much of a muchness. All rather shit.
Waitrose is the only one worth driving further to reach.
It about doubles the drive from Leeds to York.

Almost every one of the mass produced breads carried in Tesco and Sainsburys
is shit. Regardless of what they print on the packaging. And if you look at
the ingredients list check that almost all now incorporate sugar. Which
makes it more palatable to the average mobile home dwelling ****.

I usually buy Polish rye bread these days which is a) scrummy b) scrummy
    toasted

Curiously, and feel free to call me eccentric, I prefer to buy my veggies in
a Greengrocers. I also like to go to a local fishmonger and Butcher for
    fresh.

We bake our own. I wouldn't buy shop bread now unless I really needed
some bread and didn't have the means or the time to bake some.

We're holidaying in the UK this year, and we're taking the breadmaker
    with us.

Have you ever looked at the ingredients? 65% meat IIRC.

    Sausages are 85%, preferably 95%

You're going to find the 1960s a bit of a shock.

1960 was a shock. Mostly for everyone else.

And FFS how hard can it be finding a house within walking distance of some
    decent village shops.

Find yourself a sefefrican butcher and get some decent boerewors.
100% named meat with spices; usually beef, ostrich or bambi.

  16. Very high meat content isn't always the best indicator of content.
Firstly because that meat content can include reclaimed meats, offal
and a surprising amount of fat.

I've been mulling the idea of making my own for quite some time now.
Firstly, because I miss being able to buy decent sausages, secondly for
    the reason you state above.

However, I know that buying a grinder will lead to a proper stuffer
which will in turn lead to curing accoutrements which will then end up
with me buying a smoke and, well, I can't justify that at the moment.

But it is a fair guide if you also check for a lack of other content

  18. It's certainly better than not reading the ingredients at all.
and when the weather turns for the better, I endeavour to do much more
of that, but until it's proved viable, or something more
viable/lucrative comes along (of which I have something cooking, so to
speak) I'll stick with dreaming of sausages and making decent burgers.

  20. Well yes, I think that's true of NL, I was trying to keep to the topic.

That's one of the things I disliked about "Rip-off Britain".
