The change was forced by the banks, as few will be issuing Electron cards
in the future. A vendor has to offer one free method of payment so, as
darsy says, Ryanair have gone for the next card in the least popular
    stakes.

I have a pre-paid Mastercard that cost me nothing. In fact, it saved
me money with a better exchange rate. I bet Ryanair won't accept Euros
    from a UK-based citizen though.

who's that with? Champ got a pre-paid Euro card from Travelex for our trip
earlier this year, but it seems to be a VISA card.

BTW, Ryanair have their own Euro pre-paid Mastercard, so you should be able
    to use yours http://www.ryanair.com/en/news/gen-en-241108

I'm not planning in using Ryanair anytime soon, but that's useful to
know. I expect the outstanding balance I have, assuming it's still
there in May, will be used for the booze bill on the TOG Tour.

Actually that's only partially true. Prices have been raised recently
with the intent of keeping people off the train at peak hours because
there wasn't the capacity available, or at least that is what the BBC
    said back then.

Yes, it's still supply & demand but not in the normal, market
    equilibrium sense.

BBC finally caught up? Or have they been complaining about it since the
    70s as well?

Fucking hell. I can get two first class tickets from Paris to Tarbes
for €240 return. And it's around 500miles away.

That's kind of you mate, but this would be a pleasure trip. And there's
no pleasure in commercial flying these days.

We'll go somewhere closer to home and drive.

Is all but a 1 1/2 hour flight - not too long to be airborne, then you
    get longer at your destination

I can't speak for Nigel, but it's not the length of the flight, it's
the queue for security, the waiting around surrounded by The General
Public before the flight is called...

  15. A year or so back my wife did the Loch Ness Marathon, we enquired
about going up on a sleeper, (Kings Cross - Inverness)the two of us
and no 2 son, going Friday eve and coming back over night on Sunday,
    nearly £3000 !!
We drove up in the end, Hitchin to Inverness 6h45m, couldn't get there
    quicker any other way.
She's doing it again next year, maybe WUN can give us a price for the
    trip !

also the cheap tickets don't go on sale until 12 weeks prior to the
date of travel and get snapped up pretty quickly.

They're making it much too difficult to do business with them.

    So I won't.

Thanks for all the advice, folks.
