Being one of the "lucky" ones who had the misfortune to pass through T5 on
its opening day, enroute from Shanghai to Manchester, my luggage of course
    is still at T5.

Apart from the cost of the case, some toiletries and dirty laundry the main
concern is my suit trousers, as the jacket is fairly useless without the
    trousers :)

I hear everyone saying passengers should have compensation etc but what
    exactly are the amounts here?

Not exactly lucky - that's half the point of travel insurance.

Seems to me that that limit is well overdue for an update.

Here's an idea: choose 100 bags at random from the huge pile currently
at T5. Open them, and assess the value of the contents. Take an average.
    Voila! New limit for compensation.

    Next!
