Speedo on the Triple (2003) has packed in. It stopped briefly last year, but
came up again after a reboot as it were. Currently it reads 0 or 1 mph on
occasion. Given my current point total and need for licence, this is not
    good.

I'm geussing at a loose connector / cable somewhere, so does anyone know
where the sender is before I have to cart it off to the dealer (I hope
    under warranty)
    TIA

If your tacho is still working then you can roughly work out speed in your
    head as follows:

    (rev counter reading /100) * (currentgear/currentgear+1)

Catman emerged from their own little world to say
Not Triumph, but the 2 bikes I had with electronic speedo sensors, both
took readings from a sensor on the front sprocket.

Follow the cable from the sensor and see if there is a connector where this
wire joins the main bike wiring loom. On one of my bikes this was just
behind where the main loom emerged from under the tank, to run along the
subframe rail to the rear end.

    revs - 5000, gear - 6th

    By your calculation, that's 5000/100 x 6 (or 7)

    So that's 300(or 350)mph......

Hmmmmm. Maybe I should swap the Daytona for a Speed triple.

Don't know the answer to the problem, but until it's sorted:

Most bikes I've had have always had one gear where 1000rpm is roughly 10mph.
My Daytona does that in 2nd, the NS in 3rd, the R6 was 3rd, but changing the
    gearing messed all that up.

Given the Speed triple is probably lower geared than a Daytona, I'd got for
3rd gear, just under 1000rpm per 10mph to keep you relatively safe until it
    gets fixed. Ish

You seem to have interpreted the two "/" signs to have different
    meanings. I'd suggest 5000/100*6/7 = 42.8

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I think I may have done... I don't think I could work
that one out on the move (esp all the decimal places....), given I couldn't
    work it out sat still.

Plus, I don't think a Speed Triple would be doing only 42.8mph at 5000 in
top....... My Daytona's doing around 90 at those revs.

So, in proper ukrm tradition, even though I'm wrong, I'm right, too. :)

Cheers. That sounds about right. I'm prety sure it's 70 at 4.5k in top, so
that's OK, it's more the 30 and 40s that are worrying me. 3rd should do
    fine.

Knowing you, you probably mean it too.

Although it brings us on to "instrumentation that should have died at
birth" ... I nominate Kawasaki, for their brilliant idea of putting a
hard-to-read-in-sunshine LCD fuel gauge on top of the tank on the GPZ &
750 Turbo models. Good call chaps, nice one.[/QUOTE]

Try Kawasaki fitting a hard to read LCD tacho on their top of the
range sports bike for the last two years. Apparently they've changed
it for this years model but the tacho on my 10R is fucking useless.

Not if the road's twisty, I go by engine feel or by the limiter.
Having said that, if you hit the limiter you've fucked up by about 1k
rpm as far as peak power is concerned. I've got a change light I can
set to whatever I want if I feel the need to do so (never do though)
but when I was running the bike in the tacho was a bit of a must.
My bait's better than yours so go **** yourself.

    Well.

OK, I'm no riding God. More a riding Goit.

However. It's a fucking animal. I have to lean back to even see the
clocks, and I can categorically state that on the go that Bonners let me
    have[1] I didn't bother. Not even once.

[1] He honestly didn't look that pissed.
