Which models of these onwards were full power, and aside from rotting
downpipes / saggy suspension etc, is there anything else to check for
    in particular on these?

    TIA

1100 models rather than 600s, that is.

Fucked front discs, fucked head bearings, camchain tensioners can go
rattly, also there's a balancer shaft on the engine that gets
overlooked, that can sound like camchain rattle. They eat cushdrive
rubbers & they can be heavy on chains.

Anyy 1100 can be made full power easily anyway, so don't let that put
    you off a good bike.

Great bike, i have had a couple & loved them.

Good fairing, but fit a MRA Vario screen for extra comfort.

Parts are quite cheap & there's loads knocking about in breakers. Fit
clear indicators from the ZZR1200 just makes it look a bit less dated.

....same as most stuff then. :)
Every bike I've had in recent times seems to have suffered with that,
bar the VFRs for obvious reasons... but bored with those and want some
real stomp for once, something a ZZR should provide in spades if what
I've read about them so far is right.
Is there any obvious way of differentiating between the two without
    physically stripping it down?
Good good... I'd expect nothing less on a behemoth of this size which
    wasn't saddled with shaft drive.
    Aye... 'carb tops'.

Would rather try and get hold of one already as it should be,
though... for once I'd like to buy something I can just get on and
ride, and not have to fettle first.
Ok, cheers for the info. :)

Indeed... which is why I want to go and look something over properly
before I commit to buying it.

Given I've not stated in here how much I expect to pay for a half
decent one of these, you are Mystic Meg AICM5P.

The very same carb tops that were on the ZXR750H1/2. Many a 750 owner
found their second hand bikes had restricted carbs on them.

Was the restriction something you could remove with a Dremel or angle-grinder?

Nope, the carb top wasn't full height across the whole diameter, so when
the slider was moved up, it came up short against the plastic. If you
removed said restriction with said angle-grinder, you'd end up with no
    carb top affixed.

Looking at it side on, it'd be something like this (fixed width font
    required)...

    A moot point now, anyway.

Went and test rode the one I'd spotted locally, and found it had not
really to my liking in terms of the front brake which seemed to come a
bit too far back towards the bars.

That, and the rear subframe looked a bit twisted... and it didn't feel
all that quick to me, if I'm brutally honest.

Anyway... I've just won this: http://tinyurl.com/n9b3ar

Even if I don't like it, and even though I didn't really want
something that needs a bit of fettling, I reckon it's a steal at that
    price. :)

And if you don't want it, I might not be interested in it at all, oh
no. I don't like Italian V-Twins at all, me.

Yes, yes, I know. I actually have and I don't really want another bike
at the moment. But that's never stopped me.

1100 models from 1997 onwards were full power. It is so simple to check
if it has been restricted. The de-restricted models have carb tops from
the early ZXR750 fitted. These have a straight sides about 25mm tall
and a flat top with a small button sitting proud in the middle. The
restricted carb tops are shallower, about 10mm tall with a taller
    centre button.

You can see them if you squint under the tank from either side. A
restricted one is not noticeably slower through the gears until you
stick a derestricted one next to it in a top gear roll on. They're
giving away 15bhp but you don't really miss it.

Only on C1 models, the very first ZZR1100. They were sorted on the C2,
and most of the C1s that had problems.

how much. How Much. HOW FUCKING MUCH

JHC all Aprilia 4T's ever built throughout the history of time are truly
awful bikes that should never be owned.........but that is an incredible
bargain. Is it Cat D or something!

And it's only done 20k, sheesh!
