Paging them wot knows about bolts - again.

Thanks for the last lot of replies. I am trying to locate someone who
stocks nuts and bolts, I can't find anyone near me. So I went onto the
screwfix site.

I can get 8.8 zinc plated bolts there easy enough but the only nuts I can
see are stainless. Now, heeding Grimly Curmudgeon's sage advice of
stainless steel's tendency to crack, (I thought there was something about
it) what's the FOAK's opinion on using a steel bolt with a stainless steel
nut on a damper mount?

The stainless bolt you have shouldn't be a problem (the issue with cracking
goes back 20-30 years ago and it can't be that old to have the code) It's
always best to avoid mixing stainless and plated nut/bolts due to
electrolytic corrosion.

When using stainless fasteners, either use a thread-lock fluid or
alloy-based anti-seize compound, never copper grease.
