    Do you ever:

    1. Touch your face or food after opening a public bog door?
    2. Drink from a can or bottle without sterilising the neck?
    3. Eat in a pub/cafe/restaurant without taking your own plate & cutlery?
    4. Eat any fast food?
    5. Touch your face or food after shaking hands with someone?
    6. Give oral sex?

If you answer 'yes' to any of the above, stop worrying about chopping
boards & cat bowls ffs! If you don't answer 'yes' to any of the above,
    you're lying.

Whilst I agree with you, my first thought was 'he's been drinking'

You forgot "travel by public transport, including by air", which has to
be the single most reliable way to catch a disease I've ever found.

Does it annoy anyone else when you get the odd martyr at work that
insists on coming in when obviously carrying something contagious?

Id rather they stayed at home, rather than making the rest of the office ill.

The only ones I hate more are those who jump on you, give you a
kiss on the cheek and THEN tell you : I'm sick as a dog...

    I'd murder the lot. >:-(

    Ho yuss.
Abso-bloody-lutely. If any of my lot are sick I tell them to stay the
**** away from the office, even though I'm hardly ever there.

Well yes, but then you have modern sickness policies designed to reduce
absence by giving you a warning if you're off more than 3 times in 6 months
even if those 3 times are just one day each.

    But then
WE evolved in unsanitary conditions, germs keep our immune systems in good
working order. Sterilising everything that doesn't move is what's giving the
next generation terminal allergies. I prefer to live in mildly dirty
    conditions.

I never had you down as the type to worry about such things. Whatever
you do, don't ever get a bacteria test done on your gloves & crash
helmet, or go swimming in a lake[1] or the sea.

    [1] Especially that - it's how I got Weil's.

Heh. In my defence I was at least windsurfing rather than just
swimming. That has to be a bit more manly.

    **** em.

Although I recently made the mistake of using three days holidays when I
should have had some personal days. Got a bee in my bonnet that this was
the first year that I'd never had a day off sick and didn't want to ruin
it for namby pamby sorting out my personal life stuff. I've come to my
senses and will be asking for my holidays back.

My Ex had that shit from her employer. Having been sent home once
after a nosebleed that wouldn't stop & then breaking her ankle at
work. I told her to tell them politely to **** off and to point out
the ankle was industrial injury and you can't *easily* fake x-rays.

In that particular case they shouldn't have even thought about
bringing it up. But if someone's got a cold they don't want to have
time off because they might get a warning. They then infect the rest
of the office and your productivity's shagged. Bloody stupid if you
ask me. Any manager worth their salt ought to be able to tell if
    someone is swinging the lead.

The problem when I was at Xerox was a breed of line manger selected
especially for having no balls to tell senior management to wind their
necks in. A senior manager would look at a spreadsheet and decide that all
absence should be challenged. For the next few months we would have return
to work interviews to accuse us of being slackers and letting the team
down. Personally, I told the line manager to **** off. Many people got
upset and started to come to work when ill. Several people with chronic
illnesses went onto long term sick rather than working when they felt well.
I'm sure it cost them more as bugs spread more rapidly, attendance went up
    but productivity decreased.

If anybody is interested in research on this topic then the books by Arlie
Hochschild are very interesting. The Managed Heart and The Time Bind are
getting old now but still fascinating.

**** that, when we're busy at work (like now) I don't expect anyone to
be taking time off for a fucking sniffle and if they do they need to
start worrying about if they'll have a job to come back to when they
    feel fit again.

Life becomes much easier when 75% of your staff are temps on over a
grand a week and they know they can be replaced quite easily.
