    Y-reg 2001 CBR929-RR1
    Blue/White/Yellow
~11,900 miles (can't remember exactly, but although it has had it's 12K
service, there are less than 12K miles on the clock).
FSH (all Honda dealers). Also had the EXUP cables replaced at the last
    service.
I'd say it's in "good" to "very good" rather than "concours" condition.
    Only flaws are:

    1) was dropped at 2mph due to a cack-handed **** grabbing the front
brake on wet leaves/mud. One of the engine bolts has slightly deformed
the fairing on the outside - about a 8mm across outward dent, maybe 3
mm raised - you don't see it unless it's pointed out.
    2) there's a slight nick on the pillion pad, repaired, but visible.

    And that's it, otherwise A1.

Mods (I know they don't add to the value, but I'll mention them
anyway): "Blue Flame" Carbon/Kevlar end-can but have original; double
bubble screen (have original, but it got uglified in a
best-not-spoken-of degreaser incident - gone irregularly opaque). It
originally had merkin-style rear homdicators, but I had this put back
to standard. It also has an alarm/immobiliser, but I realise most
people see this as a problem rather than a boon - on the other hand,
some insurers won't cover some places/people without them.

    Specifically, I'm looking for a trade-in price. Parker's suggests 3980,
    but I thought I'd get a 2nd opinion.

On the other hand, if anyone on here wants to buy it, Parkers also
suggests up to 4320 for a private sale. (in this case, you need to know
the bike's in Bush Hill Park, North London).

Also, bikes don't sell well at this time of year, does that help or
hinder trading-in against another 2nd-hand bike, or not make a lot of
difference. My first feeling was that if they're having trouble
shifting stock, it'll be easier to do a deal, but on the other hand,
they still have the same number of bikes in stock, so this is probably
    wishful thinking.

I'd say that depends on the bikes, & the cost differential. If you're
trading in for something significantly more expensive that's gathering
dust, they'll probably bite yer hand off. However if it's something
that costs the same as your bike, & which flies out the showroom door
the second it touches the floor, expect to be told to "**** off".

Same thoughts occurred to me - did it work for me or against me trading-
in - or neutral in the end?

I think I got a pretty good price trading the Fazer - ultimately they
are turning some stock into cash - but perhaps it depends on how easy to
    shift the traded-in bike is?

In my case I was told the dealer will move it on in the trade - he will
only sell Triumphs so I imagine he aleady had someone lined up.

you could well be right. I'm looking for a Ducati Monster S4, and don't
really want to add more than about a grand to change. I guess it all
depends on whether S4s are bikes that "flies out the showroom door" - I
    suspect, and hope, they aren't.

Ultimately, I'd like a new Ducati S4R, but to avoid the possible big
hit of buying a new bike and not liking it, I'm going to buy a 3-4 year
    old S4 first.

    think I can trust.

  11. Probably in your area, but not round ere I should imagine, or Swindon
area. consider doing an "out of town" exchange. You might get much more
    for it.

well, I do, but as I said above, I want a Ducati.

I feel that everyone should own a Ducati at some point, even if it's
just for long enough to make them realise that they never want to own a
Ducati again. I think this is my Ducati time.

Aprilia on the other hand, are just some scooter manufacturer who
happen to make a couple of decent bikes.

  18. This is also my thought. I've been trying to decide what my next bike
should be, and the S4 is on the list, pretty much for the same reason.

Trade in worked best for me. (June 05)

2001 RRY (6K miles, mint, needed a front tyre). I tried without success to
sell privately, I'd have happily taken £4K for it including the extra
fitted. Dealer gave me £4700 for it against a new Blade. I removed the
steering damper and got £190 for it on ebay. So all in all I was £890 better
off trading in (Less any discount I could have got for a straight sale,
which I doubt would have been much as they were the only dealership in NI
    with bikes in stock)

Interesting bit is as soon as I had the deal done but not collected the new
bike yet a friend of a friend wanted to buy it. Obviously I now needed more
than the £4K I had originally told him. He bought the bike of the dealer
with no warranty, and needing a front tyre for £4K and collected at my
house! Who says new bike mark ups are small?
