Yea, since the govt seem intent on taxing the **** out of them,
insurance rocketing and fuel prices doing the same, i'm getting my
riding in now before fuel hits £2/litre.

Maybe I should wait for the end of the summer and pick up a 750SS that
someone needs to sell to put food on the table....

I've even considered not taking the car upgrade I'm entitled to, as the
cash I get back for sticking with the same grade as I have at the moment
would cover a significant chunk of a 0% deal on a brand new bike.

  6. That's about the only way you'll get them. They seem to be worth so
little I'd surmise most people are hanging onto them, like me.

I see your point - but I'm looking along the lines of one that has been
bought around now, 'cos the sun has come out, and will be for sale in
the autumn because the owner has realised they can't afford to have an
un-used toy sat in the garage all winter.

Tell me about it - I can't find anything half decent for sale - looked
on ebay and found some being sold by illiterates and even one where a
'selling point' was a cambelt change 8 years ago!

Even the later shape bikes are thin on the ground.

If I wasn't so tight with my wallet, I could pick up a brand new 06
model Multistrada for very little (£5499) - but I suspect they're too
tall for me (and pig ugly, too).

Looking at ST series bikes as well, but they appear to be holding their
value a little too well for my liking.

I've even considered a Firestorm or SV1000, but I know I'd regret it.

haha. This from the man looking at a Ferrari engined Lancia ;)
Yes, and you'll have lost out on a summer's riding on it. Seems a pity
to hold on for months to save a few quid.

Sounds like you need a priority re-prioritising

Well, I have a bike, so I'm not in a major hurry - I was thinking there
would be more choice of bikes in the autumn than there are at the
    moment.

Why buy an SV1000 when the 650 is more than adequate and a far nicer
bike to ride? I know of quite a few SV1000 owners who have either sold
them on and gone back to a 650, or are trying to flog them to buy
    another 650. No-one wants the 1000.

The only reason I'd buy an SV1000 is because they are cheap, they don't
    do anything very well.

Hmmmm, local dealer has an SV650SK4 for £2399.

    That's tempting.

    Anyone want a VFR?

That ain't a bad price for a K4 from a dealer. You can pick up the
occasional K5 for about 2500 or so on the SV forum. The K3 has a higher
seat height if that makes any difference to you - that would make it
difficult for Katie to get on and off because the pillion seat is way
up high. They lowered the subframe for the K4 onwards bikes. IIRC all
years of SV1000 have the higher seat height.

Thinking abut it, Ogden's SV650K5 is low mileage and 100% immaculate,
    thought about his?

Mind you - what's the list price of a new one? - £4300 or so? - wonder
if I can find any of last year's model or something going cheaper.

All K7s have gone, only K8s are available now. You can batter some
dealers down to about 4 grand on a new standard one if you're very
lucky. Some dealers are doing K8s with fairing lowers for 4300

Yup, had crossed my mind, but that tips things into 'really must get
shot of the VFR' rather than 'maybe I could keep both'.

I stuck a post on the SV forum asking where the best deals on new bikes
    are.

You can follow it from here if you like:
