Paging TOG

    Oh, right. I don't recall seeing that sort of exterior arrangement
    before. Usually there's a pipe sticking down into the float bowl, or
    in the float bowl itself, sticking up. Yes, just the sort of thing
    that would get broken off if a tyre lever[1] slips.

    [1] Weapon of choice for levering banks of carbs off inlet rubbers ;-)

    It's standard on Mikuni's. My 1990 gixxer has them.
    Any good bodger would have replaced it with the tube from a biro.
    And it's nothing all to do with the float/needle valve assembly.

    Right. From the early postings, I assumed it was the overflow tube,
    which of course is related to the float operation. If it's not this,
    what is it, exactly?

    All I know is... what the AA chap told me.

    That, and my bike had fuel pissing out of the carb that was missing
    the offending pipe.

    Fingers crossed there should still be some sunshine about when I
    finally get the bike back!
