  1. Er... does the phrase "built for export" ring any bells?

    I thought it was compulsory.

What *really* matters is the subsidiary damage caused by the suddenly
loose end of the chain flying past your engine casings at high speed.
Some of us get away with it, some of us... don't... :-(

I was cycling back from the garage where I'd dropped ths car off for a
sevice/MOT this morning, and a nice old GL1000 with a pair of Krausers on
came past, looking very classic and sensible. Hmm. Although there was a
newish VFR parked at B&Q last night, and it looked very smart too. Silver,
    it was.

If you'd kept your personal parts tucked in, there would have been a lot
    less drag.

Mine was one of the first ones, early 2000 - Niall's was a year later, I
    think.
Did I? If you know the name of the file, I've probably still got it, but
my webspace will have moved since then.
    Lucky bastard.
And if anyone does buy it, I've got a pristine set of original cans
sitting in the roof of my garage.

The problem with all this high performance kit is that it would be the
Trophy all over again: I'd be trundling in to work at 130mph every morning,
and sooner or later it would end in tears. I have no self-discipline.

I suspect that's more to do with the default riding style for B12s being
"ride it like you stole it".

I think I did manage to get over 120 miles at times, but I also got it
to go onto reserve after about 70 at others.

    Unlikely, unless it's your round...

Wouldn't have made much difference. They may be huge, but they're highly
    aerodynamic.

My dad used to have one with a Difazio hub centre steering front end. A
strange looking beast to be sure.

The Older Gentleman emerged from their own little world to say
but if you were a Japanese designer who liked to hire a motorcycle when you
took a holiday in the West.....

I think he bought it as a basket case & rebuilt it. I never rode it, &
can't remember if he even finished it. This was at least 22 years ago
    mind.

They do seem to bring out the madness in people. I presume you've seen
the pics of the one converted into an enduro bike? Utterly bonkers.

Careful, you'll get BGN all excited & he'll do even more damage to his
    nuts.

The Kwaker is a totally unplaty like bike IMHO though. It goes too
fast at the top end for no effort. It's covered in fragile bits. It's
lots of work just to get at the bits you want to service so you don't
bother! Fancy bits tend to made just for it and more expensive/rarer.

A B12 with mushrooms and engine bars can be lowsided or dropped off
the stand without much expense. It's fast at low and mid range without
hitting 130 on the daily commute without noticing. Everything is easy
to get at. It's bog simple to service, not even a shimmed top end.
Parts are el-cheepo. It looks retro. There is a multitude of cheap
custom parts. It's a good pillion plot. Properly dynojetted on a
rolling road he is going to get 45-50mpg. If he goes silly season he
can have a bonkers engine for a grand.
Joking aside I think it would change the Platy universe. It has
upended my biking and taken me back to a world of pleasure 20 years
old. It's like Lozzo rediscovering RD world without crank/top end
rebuilds. I'm never off the feckin' thing, I *never* used the Gixxer
for the 2 mile run into my office buildings yet it peeled off a return
trip to the B.Horse better than a K1100. If I'm not riding it I'm at
it with a pot brush or a toolkit for no particularly good reason. I'm
    indebted to Pip and Adie/Andy.

    See my other post!!
If you cover it Comp. you can borrow mine for a couple of weeks, any
    time, to evaluate.

Actually, that was to within half a litre of empty, because it didn't
have a fuel tap, so was on reserve all the time.
