  1. For real madness, one was raced either at Le Mans or the Bol (French 24
hours, anyway) in a Dresda frame. Some time in the mid-1970s.

And, I believe, later acquired by the departed LJKS as a road bike.

See if you can put it up again - it's a classic pic.

I used to spend 4 1/2 hours in the seat of my old ZZR1100, get off at
the other end and then jump straight into bed for an all night sex sesh
with my ex. It was that comfy.

I'd have managed an hour tops if I'd taken a Thunderace. The Ace was
well comfy, but the ZZR beat it hands down.

I tended to think of the CX500 as a poor man's BMW, but I know what you
mean. IIRC one of the reasons the GL1000 lasted so well was that it was a
water-cooled bike built to air-cooled standards of durability.
All silver, quite tiny and cute in a weird, scary way.

Looked like the pillion perch was reasonably comfy, too, but I'd rather
shove lit sparklers up my urethra than take on the challenges of V-Tec
    technology.

Isn't there a perfectly useable one wasting away in Hertfordshire?

You could at least convince yourself that you don't want one.

Nah, perfect tear-drops - think GeeBee racer. I trust everyone is aware
that the phrase "balls-out" refers to the governor on a steam engine:

Good grief. I may have more to be ashamed of that I previously imagined.

    Back, err, shortly...

Not quite. The Trophy weighed as much as the Drifter, but the CofG was
somewhere just above the fuel tank, so it was a bugger to manoeuvre at
standstill, park on a slope etc. It leaned over at about 45deg on the
sidestand. I had to clean-and-jerk it to get it onto the mainstand, and
hope the exertion hadn't made me curl one out. Getting it off the mainstand
was similarly a test of nerve and sinew. Once, trying to get off a ferry in
Dover, I was heaving it around, rocking the fucker back and forth, cursing
horribly, and it was simply skidding along the deck. I was within an ace of
firing it up, putting it into gear, giving it a handful and rocking it
    backwards...

It was a gorgeous-looking bike, and the handling was perfectly acceptable
once under way, if not exactly agile. The screen worked well enough for the
rider, if not the pillion, and the panniers stayed on most of the time, even
when full of water. Its thirst was epic, and the transition to reserve was
accompanied by quite extraordinary tantrums from the engine. Wasn't too
hard on tyres, but the servicing commitment was daunting to one more used
primitive pushrod twins with easily accesible bits.

Which makes me a bit cautious about big-bore sports-touring fours. The FJ
was something that came along, and I took the opportunity to have a little
trundle on it, but - viewed dispassionately - it's not really my sort of
    bike.
The various CXes are somewhere on the list, and I actually had a GL500 six
    or seven years ago.

I couldn't convince Nigel to sell it. Anyway, it's yellow and has a huge
    Vetter Windjammer bolted onto it.
    Don't think I haven't tried.

With a behemoth like the Trophy, on a slippy steel deck, it's a last-resort
    act of desparation.

My 305 was perfectly balanced for that little trick. Bang it in gear,
rock it forward a touch, let out the clutch and sit it back hard and it
would pop off the stand with a satisfying little squeak from the tyre.
    Good it was.

Very classy-looking bike, dark glossy met green, restrained chrome trim,
gold signage. A sight better looking than the usual yoghurt-pot paintjob.
IIRC the Euro has a bigger tank, too.

The Euro tank was 19 litres, and I think the Z-A-B tanks were about 17.
