it's going to take me a little while to work out the names of all the
nearest pubs to my latest place of employment[1]. there seem to be a
    couple of dozen.

    any recommendations?

  4. Yes. Eat an excellent fry-up or pancake breakfast at Smiths of Smithfield
whilst ignoring the arrogant service, the food is rather good.

I've always worked on the assumption that knowing where it is is good
    enough for me...

Breakfast? You've clearly completely failed to understand the concept
behind a pub. And pancakes for breakfast[1] are an abomination.

that's reasonably close to me. I know a few places around there, that
    are OK:

on Smithfield Square itself, either the Bishop's Finger or the
Butcher's Hook & Cleaver are OK for a lunchtime drink and some grub. I
    don't know Barbican, I'm afraid.

forgetting the breakfast notion, but Smiths of Smithfield isn't a pub
    at all, it's a restaurant.

  10. Indeed. It's not a pub. I just recommended something I like - I thought
that's how it goes around here.

e.g. Innocent: "What bike shall I buy?"
    Bear: "ZX-9R"

    etc...
