Let's be honest, you've had considerable help from the rest of your half

I'll try to line up some Kerr Pinks and maybe a few Golden Wonders.
I might be prepared to reach into my stash.
You didn't believe me when I told you `porky goodness' had to be a
    euphemism for something.

Courgettes: in season; strawberries: not before the clocks go back.
I might also try out the goose version on you.
Are *you* making the swinish satisfaction?

indeed. I like (and can distinguish between) quite a few varietys of
    potato, but I wouldn't attempt a back-to-back comparison.

Though I will happily eat a meal that consists of nothing but potatoes
with a bit of butter, salt and pepper (now and again).

You're quite off the mark with your view of Waitrose though - your
reverse snobbery gland is acting overtime. Or maybe it varies from
branch to branch, but certainly the 3 that I'm most familiar with
(Enfield Town, WGC and Holloway Road) are not snobby at all. Actually,
I've been in the one in Bath too - it's also fine.

Or maybe you just prefer the sort of supermarket (Asda, Somerfields)
where chavvy single mother's hit their screaming children in public.

For pricing, their 1/2-decent wines are cheaper than the nearest
equivalent in Tesco. And there are things you can get in Waitrose that
you don't in any of the other major chains.

And for pre-mixed bags of salad: if you wanted a salad with a mixture
of leaves, would you really buy lollo rosso, lamb's lettuce, radaccio
etc. etc. individually and mix it yourself (this is largely a
rhetorical question: I get the impression that your idea of an
acceptable salad is based on iceberg lettuce and a couple of
    tomatoes).

I wasn't complaining. Unlike Cheltenham's Wolfie Smith, I'm not so
prolier than thou that I refuse to enter a Waitrose.

First obtain your potatoes. Then cook the different varieties, then
    taste.

    What's to boggle at?

I can do science. I might even impose a coding structure on the data,
something I'm singularly failing at today.

Ding! It is basically a reasonably decent city centre supermarket.
Can't agree with this though: better a single-leaf salad made from a
fresh head of something than those abominations in protective
    atmospheres.

    what about F&M?

And anyway, do I need to add a smiley to every post? I was actually
being sarcastic in suggesting someone like yourself who obviously
enjoys good food would go into Iceland.

well, yes, but some are fluffy, some are waxy, some have thin skins,
some have tougher skins. Some are very white, some are yellow (and
    weirder colours).

    etc.

Seriously, they're a lot better than they used to be, particularly
    from M&S (and Tesco, surprisingly).

Of course, if I wanted a leaf that was available un-molested, I would
    always choose to buy it.

I quite like my local one although I get irritated that I can't find
    any home grown apples.
The last time I was in a Tesco[1] I had to negotiate two females
gassing in the aisle who fit Darsy's description, busy discussing what
their boyfriends were doing time for. I can't recall the detail, thank
    god but it was years.
